Last Updated: December 5, 2025

On Friday, 11 April 2025, one alleged ISIS-Somalia (Daesh) militant was killed approximately 50 miles southeast of Bosasso in Puntland State, Somalia, in an airstrike declared by US Africa Command (AFRICOM) forces in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia. No civilians were officially reported as injured or killed in the strikes.

Prior to the strike occurring, @PL_CTOperations, the X account for the Puntland counterterrorism forces, issued a warning to local nomadic communities in the Calmiskaad Mountains that “Major operations & airstrikes targeting fleeing #ISIS terrorists to begin soon.” On April 14th, @PL_CTOperations reposted their original warning announcing that “An airstrike in the #Mirale Valley area killed members of the #ISIS terrorists. The strike was carried out by the United States (@USAfricaCommand ).”

In a press release, US AFRICOM stated that they had conducted an airstrike against ISIS-Somalia militants “in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia” on April 11th, with the strikes occurring “southeast of Bosasso, Puntland, in northeastern Somalia.” Their initial assessment stated that one militant had been killed, with reportedly “no civilians” harmed. The Facility for Talo and leadership noted that the strike took place “approximately 50 miles southeast of Bosaso in Puntland, northeastern Somalia.”

Mareeg Media reported that the militant was killed in a drone strike carried out by US AFRICOM, with Garowe online stating that the militant killed was a member of Al-Shabaab.

Multiple other local, national and social media sources quoted the official press releases while reporting on the strikes.

U.S. Forces Strike Report
In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted an airstrike against ISIS-Somalia on April 11, 2025. The airstrike occurred southeast of Bosasso, Puntland, in Northeastern Somalia. AFRICOM’s current assessment is that the airstrike killed one ISIS terrorist and that no civilians were harmed. ISIS-Somalia has proved both its will and capability to attack U.S. forces. AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade ISIS-Somalia’s ability to plan and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, our forces, and our civilians abroad. Specific details about units and assets will not be released to ensure continued operations security
