Airwars Assessment
At least nine civilians, seven women and two children, were injured by two alleged US airstrikes on a wedding reception hall in the Al-Thawra District of Sana’a, Yemen at around 7:30 PM on March 19, 2025.
Houthi-affiliated news @TvAlmasirah reported on the “US aggression’s bombing of a residential neighborhood in Al-Thawra District in the capital, Sana’a, injuring 7 women and two children, in addition to damaging a number of homes.” An accompanying video showed a multi-story building which sustained damage to windows and various floors, situated next to the smoldering ruins of a burning building and car. Civil defense workers are seen trying to put out the flames. Images also posted by @TvAlmasirah included two young girls with visible injuries.
A Facebook post from Mohammed Ahmed Ghamdan provided similar information on the strike and civilian harm, and additional images of the collapsing inside of a building and the crushed vehicle. Al-thawrah News quoted the Ministry of Health and Environment which announced that the strike had hit a wedding reception hall under construction.
According to a report published by Mwatana for Human Rights, a Yemeni human rights organisation, US fighter jets carried out “two airstrikes targeting a wedding hall in the Al-Hashoush neighborhood of Al-Jiraf area in Shu’ub District, north of the capital Sana’a.” The organisation specified that the strikes injured three women and a young girl who were in homes in the vicinity of the hall. Mwatana added that the strikes also destroyed “nearby mask manufacturing facility, in addition to causing extensive damage to surrounding houses.”
An video shared by NBC on March 20 showed on-the-ground video imagery from the the morning after the strike. The video includes clips of residential buildings, a large and smoldering structure (perhaps the manufacturing facility referred to by other sources), a white car (also included in video shared by other sources, including Al-Masirah), and what may be an impact crater. Citing the “Houthi-run health ministry”, a video caption says that nine people were injured after “strikes left a densely populated neighborhood in the Al-Jarraf district in ruins”.
In addition to sharing imagery from the site, the NBC video includes a short interview with a man who was a resident of the neighborhood, and whose home was bombed. In the video, the man says “We were shocked by the sound of the explosions…we never expected them to occur in this neighborhood as it is full of civilians and devoid of military points or bases belonging to any group.” The man goes on to share that his home was bombed, adding “we fled in panic – women and children.” He added that “several women and two children” were injured. Commenting on the alleged perpetrator of the strike, the man said “They are an enemy stripped of values, devoid of principles, devoid of humanity.”
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to the US military.
