Airwars assessment
At around 5:20 PM on November 28th, 2024, two alleged American airstrikes hit the Bajel District in Al-Hodeida Governorate in Western Yemen. The strikes reportedly injured at least one civilian, Tareq Sufiany, who was at one point trapped under the rubble of a building that was reportedly struck.
A video shared to Facebook by Zahir al-Shabi at 10:52 PM on the same day reported to show a man, Tareq Sufiany, under the rubble. In the video, Tareq, wearing an orange shirt and brown jacket, appears with his lower half trapped under rubble. In the video, Tareq expresses solidarity with the people of Gaza. The video was re-shared by Zuher al shabi, Az al deen ameer, and Mortada Al Rajhi, also to Facebook. Mortada wrote “After the American and British raids on #Bajil today, brother #Tariq_Al-Sufyani from under the rubble. Sends a very strong message….”
Looking at Tareq’s personal Instagram account, it appears that he is a professional actor. At the time of writing, there is nothing to suggest that Tareq was acting in the video. This will be updated should additional information become available.
A post shared to Twitter/X by @TvAlmasirah, a Houthi-affiliated news outlet, at 5:20 PM on November 28th announced that an American-British plane hit the Bajel District with two raids.
At 5:39 PM, Al-Ahqaf Center for Media and Studies shared a post to Facebook, reiterating that “US warplanes carried out two airstrikes on Houthi positions in Bajel district”. The post specified that Bajel district is “located on the coast of the Red Sea in western Yemen.” The post also noted that the Houthis had not released information “regarding human or material losses” from the raids, and shared that “local sources” reported that the explosions “were powerful” and “[sparked] concern in the area.”
Other Facebook users, including Tamb al tazi, My news, Al Balad News Network, mountain flower, Nafazt al yamen, Aden Al-Watan Electronic Newspaper, Taiz time, and Ibrahim Kamel Abdel-Wahhab Al-Salwi all attributed responsibility for the strikes to “US-British aggression”. Twitter/X users like @AlakhbarNews, @Abwlyalmarby10, @mbs2030_mbs, and @almawqeapost reported the same.
As some sources attributed responsibility for the strike to both U.S. and British forces, both parties have been marked as the belligerent. However, as the two parties operate within a coalition, the strike status has been recorded as “Likely” rather than “Contested”. This will be updated should additional information become available.
Images posted by sources Nafazt al yamen and @mbs2030_mbs have not been archived within this incident as they have been identified as images relating to different events in Yemen from previous air campaigns.
