Turkish Military in Iraq & Syria

Turkey fought numerous military actors after intervening militarily in the Syrian Civil War in 2015, primarily against Kurdish forces but also at times the Islamic State. In northern Iraq, Turkey’s military campaign against Kurdish militant groups has expanded in recent years.

Airwars has documented hundreds of allegations of civilian harm by Turkish strikes against Kurdish-affiliated forces in Iraq and Syria since 2015.

The Kurdish Red Crescent reported that two named civilians were injured in the Rajo area. Younews reported that Turkish helicopters had targeted Rajo, while according to maf news there were “intensive Turkish air raids”. However, neither source mentioned civilian casualties. The Kurdish Red Crescent reported the death of an elderly man in military action in the Shya area. The victim was also named by KDP, Hawar news and Alitihad Press. According to Alitihad Press, the victim “died in the hospital after serious injuries to his body.” There are no other details at this time.
