January 10th 2015: On Jan. 9, U.S. and Coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL terrorists in Syria, using attack, fighter, and bomber aircraft to conduct 12 airstrikes. Separately, U.S. and Coalition military forces conducted three airstrikes in Iraq, using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL terrorists. All strikes took place between 8 a.m., Jan. 9, and 8 a.m., Jan. 10, local time. The following is a summary of the strikes conducted since the last press release:

* Near Kobani, 11 airstrikes struck two large ISIL units and one ISIL tactical unit, and destroyed an ISIL building and 15 fighting positions.

On January 9, while taking part in coalition missions in support of Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) ground operations conducted in the vicinity of Ramadi, west of Baghdad, two CF-188 Hornets successfully struck an ISIL transport truck carrying an Armoured Personnel Carrier by using precision guided munitions. Striking ISIL military equipment degrades their fighting capabilities and contributes to increasing the ISF’s freedom of movement in the region.

Later that day, while taking part in coalition missions in support of Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) ground operations, two CF-188 Hornets successfully struck ISIL positions north of Baiji using precision guided munitions.

Da’ish terrorists, who have lost a significant amount of territory to the peshmerga recently, were attempting to mount a local attack on a Kurdish unit. The GR4s delivered 4 precision strikes using Paveway IV guided bombs to disrupt the attack.

On the evening of Thursday 8 January, a Reaper remotely piloted air system (RPAS) worked in close conjunction with other coalition aircraft to provide air support to Iraqi troops in Anbar province, western Iraq. The RAF Reaper provided targeting assistance to the fast jets in strikes against ISIL positions, and conducted a successful attack using its own Hellfire missiles.
