Noureddine Abdo, a 29-year-old Palestinian journalist who contributed to the local privately owned Al-Shareq News Network, was killed on May 7, 2025, in an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced people in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, eastern Gaza City, according to multiple media reports. 

Al-Shareq New Network covers events in eastern Gaza City and provides news services to media websites, Abdalrhman Mohesin, director of Al-Shareq News Network, told CPJ.

“At around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Israeli warplanes targeted Al-Karama School, which was sheltering displaced persons in the Al-Tuffah area — a location classified as extremely high-risk,” Mohesin said. “The strike resulted in numerous casualties and injuries. However, ambulances and civil defense teams were unable to reach the site immediately due to the ongoing danger.”

By 8 a.m., emergency crews were able to reach the school, along with Abdo, who went to report on the aftermath, Mohesin said. Noureddine was killed a half hour later when Israel launched a second airstrike, he said.
