She lost half her weight... Rahil Rasras is another face of the Israeli starvation massacre in Gaza

Daily scenes of loss have become familiar, but the story of citizen Rahil Rasras epitomizes human oppression in its most horrific form, as waves of death by starvation accelerate in the besieged Gaza Strip, while warnings from international organizations accumulate of the famine spreading to unprecedented levels.

Rahil Muhammad Rasras, 32, a physically disabled woman, breathed her last on Monday evening at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza.

Doctors at the medical complex confirmed that she arrived in critical condition as a result of severe malnutrition and dehydration. Months ago, she weighed about 50 kilograms, but the blockade, which prevented the entry of food, medicine, and water, reduced her body to bones weighing no more than 25 kilograms.

Photos of Rahil's death, documented by medical teams, reveal a pale face, sunken eyes, and protruding limbs, revealing the extent of the disaster.

Rahil's death is not an isolated case. The Ministry of Health announced the deaths of 20 citizens in the past 48 hours due to starvation, bringing the number of documented starvation victims to 86, including 76 children.

The Most Dangerous Stages of Famine

In recent days, cases of severe exhaustion and fainting have been observed among citizens searching for flour or wandering the streets of Gaza, while emergency rooms in dilapidated hospitals are crowded with dozens of injured people suffering from severe nutrient deficiencies.

Dr. Munir al-Barsh, Director General of the Ministry of Health, described the situation as the most dangerous stage of famine.

Al-Barsh said that increasing numbers are falling ill in the streets due to starvation, and that hospitals are operating in near-deficient conditions, with 22 hospitals out of service and only 16 remaining partially functioning.

Urgent Warning

The Gaza NGO Network issued an urgent warning that the coming hours will be critical for the lives of thousands, especially children, in the absence of any serious food flow. In the same context, World Food Programme (WFP) spokeswoman Abeer Etefa expressed her fear that famine could be officially declared in Gaza by September if obstacles to aid entry continue, stressing that field indicators have already crossed the danger threshold.

Michael Fakhri, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, said that what is happening in Gaza is unprecedented in modern history.

Ross Smith, Director of Emergencies at the World Food Programme, explained that since mid-May, the program has been unable to bring in more than 10% of the food needs of the Strip, despite having sufficient stocks to feed Gaza's population for two months under operational conditions.

In addition to hunger, hospitals are experiencing a severe shortage of medicines and medical equipment due to the continued deliberate Israeli targeting of their facilities. The ongoing war, which began on October 7, has resulted in the deaths of approximately 59,000 Palestinians and the injury of more than 142,000, while more than two million people are suffering under a suffocating siege, forced displacement, and systematic starvation.

مشاهد الفقد اليومية باتت مألوفة، لكن قصة المواطنة رحيل رصرص تختزل القهر الإنساني بأبشع صوره، مع تسارع موجات الموت جوعًا في قطاع غزة المحاصر، فيما تتراكم تحذيرات المنظمات الدولية من اتساع رقعة المجاعة إلى مستويات غير مسبوقة.

رحيل محمد رصرص، 32 عامًا، من ذوي الإعاقة الحركية، لفظت أنفاسها الأخيرة مساء الاثنين في مجمع ناصر الطبي بمدينة خان يونس جنوب القطاع.

هيكل عظمي

أطباء المجمع الطبي أكدوا أنها وصلت في حالة حرجة نتيجة سوء التغذية الحاد والجفاف. كانت تزن قبل أشهر نحو 50 كيلوغرامًا، لكن الحصار الذي منع دخول الغذاء والدواء والماء حوّل جسدها إلى عظام لا تتجاوز خمسةً وعشرين كيلوغرامًا.


صور رحيل التي وثّقتها الطواقم الطبية كشفت وجهًا شاحبًا وعيونًا غائرة وأطرافًا بارزة تفضح حجم الكارثة.

وفاة رحيل ليس حالة فردية. فقد أعلنت وزارة الصحة استشهاد 20 مواطنًا خلال الساعات الـ 48 الأخيرة بسبب الجوع، ليصل عدد ضحايا التجويع الموثقين إلى 86، بينهم 76 طفلًا.

أخطر مراحل المجاعة

خلال الأيام الماضية، كان بالإمكان رصد حالات إعياء شديد وإغماء لمواطنين أثناء بحثهم عن الدقيق أو تجولهم في شوارع غزة، فيما تتكدس غرف الطوارئ بمستشفيات متهالكة بعشرات المصابين الذين يعانون من نقص حاد في العناصر الغذائية.

الدكتور منير البرش، مدير عام وزارة الصحة، وصف الوضع بأنه أخطر مراحل المجاعة.

وقال البرش: إن أعدادًا متزايدة تسقط في الشوارع بسبب الجوع، وإن المستشفيات تعمل في ظروف شبه معدومة بعد خروج 22 مستشفى عن الخدمة وبقاء 16 فقط تعمل جزئيًا.

تحذير عاجل

بدورها، أطلقت شبكة المنظمات الأهلية في غزة تحذيرًا عاجلًا بأن الساعات المقبلة ستكون حاسمة على حياة الآلاف، خصوصًا الأطفال، مع غياب أي تدفق جدي للغذاء. في السياق نفسه، عبّرت المتحدثة باسم برنامج الأغذية العالمي عبير عطيفة عن خشيتها من إعلان المجاعة رسميًا في غزة بحلول سبتمبر إذا استمرت العوائق أمام دخول المساعدات، مؤكدة أن المؤشرات الميدانية تجاوزت بالفعل عتبة الخطر.

من جانبه، قال مايكل فخري، المقرر الأممي الخاص المعني بالحق في الغذاء، إن ما يجري في غزة لم يشهد له العالم مثيلًا في التاريخ المعاصر.

بينما أوضح روس سميث، مدير الطوارئ في برنامج الأغذية العالمي، أن البرنامج لم يتمكن منذ منتصف مايو من إدخال أكثر من 10% من احتياجات القطاع الغذائية، رغم وجود مخزونات تكفي لإطعام سكان غزة شهرين إذا توفرت الظروف التشغيلية.

إلى جانب الجوع، تعيش المستشفيات أزمة حادة في الأدوية والأجهزة الطبية مع استمرار الاستهداف الإسرائيلي المتعمد لمرافقها. الحرب المستمرة منذ السابع من أكتوبر أدت إلى استشهاد نحو 59 ألف فلسطيني وإصابة أكثر من 142 ألفًا، فيما يرزح أكثر من مليوني إنسان تحت حصار خانق وتهجير قسري وتجويع ممنهج.
