Palestinian Territories - The Palestinian Center for Defending Journalists (PJPC) condemns in the strongest terms the massacre that resulted in the martyrdom of five Palestinian journalists at dawn on Thursday, in the latest Israeli war crime against journalists in the Gaza Strip.

According to the center's monitoring, the martyrs are Faisal Abu al-Qumsan, a reporter, and Ayman al-Jadi, a photojournalist, along with journalists Ibrahim al-Sheikh Ali, Mohammed al-Lad'ah, and Fadi Hassouna. They were performing their journalistic and humanitarian work when the Israeli airstrike directly struck the Al-Quds satellite channel's broadcast vehicle in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.

The PJPC affirms that this attack constitutes a clear "war crime" and reflects Israel's deliberate attempt to silence the voice of truth by targeting Palestinian journalists while they are performing their duties.

It notes that "targeting journalists is a flagrant violation of the Four Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, which protect civilians, including media workers, during armed conflicts."

The Center reiterates its call to the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and journalistic organizations around the world to condemn this crime and urge the international community to prosecute its perpetrators. It also emphasizes that international silence regarding these crimes encourages Israel to continue its violations and undermines confidence in the international system for the protection of human rights.

According to preliminary statistics issued by the Center for Defending Palestinian Journalists, the Israeli army has killed approximately 201 journalists and media workers and injured 396 others, while 40 journalists remain in detention since the start of the war on Gaza 15 months ago.

The Center for Defending Palestinian Journalists reiterates the need to stop targeting journalists and ensure their protection in accordance with international law, emphasizing the importance of holding those responsible for these crimes accountable before international courts.

ووفقًا لمتابعة المركز فإن الشهداء هم فيصل أبو القمصان، مراسل صحفي، وأيمن الجدي، مصور صحفي، إلى جانب الصحفيين إبراهيم الشيخ علي، محمد اللدعة، وفادي حسونة، الذين كانوا يؤدون عملهم الصحفي والإنساني عندما باغت القصف الإسرائيلي بشكل مباشر سيارة البث التابعة لقناة القدس الفضائية في مخيم النصيرات وسط قطاع.

يؤكد مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين أن هذا الهجوم يمثل “جريمة حرب” واضحة، ويعكس التعمد الإسرائيلي في إسكات صوت الحقيقة من خلال استهداف الصحفيين الفلسطينيين أثناء أداء واجبهم.

ويشير إلى أن “استهداف الصحفيين هو انتهاك صارخ لاتفاقيات جنيف الأربع وبروتوكولاتها الإضافية، التي تحمي المدنيين، بمن فيهم العاملون في المجال الإعلامي، خلال النزاعات المسلحة.

يجدد المركز دعوته للاتحاد الدولي للصحفيين واتحاد الصحفيين العرب والمنظمات الصحفية حول العالم لإدانة هذه الجريمة، وحث المجتمع الدولي على ملاحقة مرتكبيها. كما شدد على أن الصمت الدولي إزاء هذه الجرائم يشجع إسرائيل على مواصلة انتهاكاتها، ويضعف الثقة في النظام الدولي لحماية حقوق الإنسان.

وبحسب الإحصائيات الأولية الصادرة عن مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين، فإن الجيش الإسرائيلي قتل حوالي 201 صحفي وإعلامي، وأصاب 396 آخرين، بينما لا يزال 40 صحفيًا رهن الاعتقال منذ بدء الحرب على غزة قبل 15 شهرًا.

يجدد مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين التأكيد على ضرورة وقف استهداف الصحفيين وضمان حمايتهم وفق القوانين الدولية، مشددًا على أهمية محاسبة المسؤولين عن هذه الجرائم أمام المحاكم الدولية.
