Palestinian Territories – The Palestinian Center for the Protection of Journalists (PJPC) mourns the death of photojournalist Omar al-Dirawi, who was killed early Friday morning as a result of an Israeli airstrike on his family's home in the central Gaza Strip. He is the second journalist killed by the Israeli army this year.

The center reports that al-Dirawi, 21, was killed along with his parents and sister when the family home was bombed in the al-Zawayda area in the central Gaza Strip. This brings the number of journalists killed since the beginning of the new year to two.

Al-Dirawi worked as a photographer for the local Al-Sultah al-Rabiah news agency and the Sahat network.

The Israeli army has repeatedly launched deadly attacks against Palestinian journalists and their families. Dozens of horrific attacks have been documented against journalists and their families since the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on October 7.

The center expresses its strong condemnation of this dangerous escalation targeting Palestinian journalists while carrying out their professional duties, stressing that these crimes constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which grants journalists special protection.

The Center stresses the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities and take decisive action to stop these violations and ensure respect for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Center for Defending Palestinian Journalists reiterates its call to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to investigate these crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that Palestinian journalists are paying with their lives to uncover the truth.

According to preliminary statistics, the Israeli army has killed approximately 203 journalists and media workers, injured 396 others, and arrested 40 journalists since the start of the aggression on Gaza 15 months ago.

الأراضي الفلسطينية – ينعى مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين (PJPC) المصوّر الصحفي “عمر الديراوي”، الذي استشهد فجر الجمعة جرّاء قصف إسرائيلي على منزل عائلته وسط قطاع غزة، وهو ثاني صحفي يقتله الجيش الإسرائيلي خلال العام الجديد.

ويفيد المركز بأن “الديراوي” (21 عامًا) استشهد مع والديه وشقيقته إثر قصف منزل العائلة في منطقة الزوايدة وسط القطاع، ليرتفع بذلك عدد الصحفيين الذين قتلوا مع بداية العام الجديد إلى اثنين.

و”الديراوي” كان يعمل مصورًا لصالح وكالة “السلطة الرابعة” وشبكة “ساحات” المحليتين.

ودأب الجيش الإسرائيلي على شن هجمات قاتلة ضد الصحفيين الفلسطينيين وعائلاتهم، إذ وُثّقت عشرات الهجمات المروعة التي طالت الصحفيين وعائلاتهم منذ اندلاع الحرب الإسرائيلية على قطاع غزة في السابع من أكتوبر.

يعرب المركز عن استنكاره الشديد لهذا التصعيد الخطير الذي يستهدف الصحفيين الفلسطينيين أثناء أداء واجبهم المهني، مؤكدًا أن هذه الجرائم تمثل انتهاكًا صارخًا للقانون الدولي الإنساني الذي يمنح الصحفيين حماية خاصة.

ويشدد المركز على ضرورة أن يتحمل المجتمع الدولي مسؤولياته ويتخذ إجراءات حاسمة لوقف هذه الانتهاكات وضمان احترام حقوق الإنسان في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة.

يجدد مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين دعوته إلى المدعي العام للمحكمة الجنائية الدولية للتحقيق في هذه الجرائم وتقديم مرتكبيها للعدالة، مؤكدًا أن الصحفيين الفلسطينيين يدفعون حياتهم ثمنًا لإظهار الحقيقة.

وبحسب الإحصائيات الأولية، فقد قتل الجيش الإسرائيلي حوالي 203 صحفي وإعلامي، وأصاب 396 آخرين، واعتقل 40 صحفيًا منذ بدء العدوان على غزة قبل 15 شهرًا.
