Palestinian Territories – The Palestinian Center for the Protection of Journalists (PJPC) mourns the death of writer and journalist Mohammed Hijazi, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip. He became the fourth Palestinian journalist killed in the new year.

According to the center's monitoring, Hijazi, 36, was killed along with a number of civilians who refused Israeli army orders to evacuate the Jabalia refugee camp to Gaza City, as a result of artillery shelling that targeted them last Friday morning.

Hijazi, an editor at the Voice of Jerusalem radio station, was known for his literary and poetic writings and was in the process of writing his first novel.

Hijazi's death brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza, according to preliminary statistics, to 205, an unprecedented number for journalists worldwide.

The center expresses its strong condemnation of this dangerous escalation targeting Palestinian journalists while performing their professional duties, stressing that these crimes constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which grants journalists special protection.

It also affirms that targeting Palestinian journalists is a "war crime" aimed at "killing the truth" and preventing the world from knowing what is happening in Gaza.

The Center for Defending Palestinian Journalists reiterates its call on the international community to take immediate action to stop these serious violations and bring the perpetrators to justice. It also calls on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to investigate these crimes and prosecute the perpetrators and those responsible for issuing the orders, including the Israeli Defense Minister and Prime Minister.

الأراضي الفلسطينية – ينعى مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين (PJPC) الكاتب والصحفي محمد حجازي، الذي استشهد في قصف إسرائيلي على شمالي قطاع غزة، ليصبح الضحية الرابعة في صفوف الإعلاميين الفلسطينيين خلال العام الجديد.

ووفقًا لمتابعة المركز، فقد استشهد “حجازي” (36 عامًا) مع عدد من المدنيين الذين رفضوا أوامر الجيش الإسرائيلي بالنزوح من مخيم جباليا إلى مدينة غزة، جراء قصف مدفعي استهدفهم فجر الجمعة الماضية.

والصحفي “حجازي” كان يعمل محررًا في إذاعة صوت القدس، وكان معروفًا بكتاباته الأدبية والشعرية، وكان بصدد كتابة روايته الأولى.

ويأتي استشهاد “حجازي” ليرفع عدد الصحفيين الفلسطينيين الذين قتلوا منذ بداية الحرب الإسرائيلية على غزة، وفق الإحصاءات الأولية، إلى 205، وهو رقم غير مسبوق ضد الصحفيين حول العالم.

يعرب المركز عن استنكاره الشديد لهذا التصعيد الخطير الذي يستهدف الصحفيين الفلسطينيين أثناء أداء واجبهم المهني، مؤكدًا أن هذه الجرائم تمثل انتهاكًا صارخًا للقانون الدولي الإنساني الذي يمنح الصحفيين حماية خاصة.

كما يؤكد أن استهداف الصحفيين الفلسطينيين هو “جريمة حرب”، ويهدف إلى “قتل الحقيقة” ومنع العالم من معرفة ما يحدث في غزة.

يكرر مركز حماية الصحفيين الفلسطينيين دعوته للمجتمع الدولي إلى التحرك الفوري لوقف هذه الانتهاكات الخطيرة وتقديم مرتكبيها إلى العدالة. كما يطالب المدعي العام للمحكمة الجنائية الدولية بالتحقيق في هذه الجرائم وملاحقة مرتكبيها والمسؤولين عن إصدار الأوامر، بمن فيهم وزير الجيش ورئيس الحكومة الإسرائيلية.
