Palestinian Territories - The Palestinian Center for the Protection of Journalists (PJPC) condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces when they directly targeted the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip, killing four photojournalists.

The center notes that the martyred journalists—Mohammed Salama, a cameraman for Al Jazeera; Hossam Al-Masry, a cameraman for Reuters; Moaz Abu Taha, a cameraman; and Maryam Abu Daqqa—were directly targeted by Israel while carrying out their professional and humanitarian duty of documenting crimes committed against the Palestinian people inside medical facilities and humanitarian shelters.

The center affirms that this bloody crime is a continuation of a systematic policy adopted by the occupation to silence the truth and obscure the horrific facts witnessed in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of the genocidal war.

It emphasizes that targeting journalists inside a hospital, in the heart of a medical facility supposed to be a safe haven for the wounded, sick, and medical and media personnel, constitutes a double crime against humanity and against international humanitarian law.

The events at Nasser Medical Complex are clear evidence of the occupation's deliberate disregard for all international standards and conventions, particularly Article (79) of the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions, which explicitly stipulates the protection of journalists and the prohibition of targeting them during conflicts.

The Center warns that with the continuation of the horrific series of crimes against media professionals in Gaza, the death toll of Palestinian journalists has risen to 244 over the past twenty-two months, an unprecedented number in the history of modern warfare worldwide. This is a clear indication that the occupation is waging a parallel war of extermination against the Palestinian media, alongside its war against civilians, with the aim of obscuring the truth and silencing voices.

The Center for the Protection of Palestinian Journalists holds the occupation authorities fully responsible for the murder of our colleague Hossam Al-Masry and the wounding of his two colleagues. It emphasizes that continued impunity has encouraged the occupation to continue targeting journalists and media institutions without any deterrent. This calls for the opening of independent and transparent investigations into the killing of journalists in Gaza, and for an immediate referral to the International Criminal Court to hold the occupation leaders responsible for these crimes accountable.

ويؤكد المركز أن هذه الجريمة الدموية تأتي استمرارًا لسياسة ممنهجة يعتمدها الاحتلال لإسكات الحقيقة وطمس الوقائع المروعة التي يشهدها القطاع منذ اندلاع حرب الإبادة الجماعية.

ويشدد على أن استهداف الصحفيين داخل مستشفى، وفي قلب منشأة طبية يفترض أن تكون ملاذًا آمنًا للجرحى والمرضى والكوادر الطبية والإعلامية، يشكل جريمة مزدوجة بحق الإنسانية وبحق القانون الدولي الإنساني.

ويبرز أن ما جرى في مجمع ناصر الطبي دليل واضح على تعمد الاحتلال ضرب كل المعايير والمواثيق الدولية عرض الحائط، ولا سيما المادة (79) من البروتوكول الإضافي الأول لاتفاقيات جنيف التي تنص صراحة على حماية الصحفيين وعدم استهدافهم أثناء النزاعات.

وينبه المركز إلى أنه بتواصل مسلسل الجرائم المروعة بحق الإعلاميين في غزة، ترتفع الحصيلة الدموية لشهداء الصحفيين الفلسطينيين منذ أكثر من اثنين وعشرين شهرًا إلى 244 صحفيا في رقم غير مسبوق في تاريخ الحروب الحديثة عالميًا، في دلالة دامغة على أن الاحتلال يشن حرب إبادة موازية ضد الإعلام الفلسطيني إلى جانب حربه على المدنيين، بهدف تغييب الحقيقة وتكميم الأفواه.
