Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Abu Omar and cameraman Ahmed Matar were seriously injured after being targeted by an Israeli drone in the Mirage area north of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Al Jazeera correspondent Moamen Al-Sharafi reported that an Israeli drone fired at least one missile directly at the two colleagues, immediately amputating their right leg and severely wounding their left leg. He also sustained serious injuries throughout his body as a result of shrapnel from the missile.

Al-Sharafi added that photographer Ahmed Matar suffered a severe injury to one hand, in addition to wounds to the rest of his body. Eyewitnesses transported the two colleagues to a field hospital in the area for first aid, before ambulances arrived and transported them to the European Hospital.

An Al Jazeera correspondent reported that the two colleagues were admitted to the operating room for urgent and emergency surgeries.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Shaer, a specialist in the vascular surgery department at the European Hospital, reported that the first surgery on colleague Ismail Abu Omar was completed. During the surgery, an amputation was performed above the knee on his right foot and the bleeding in his left foot was stopped.

Al-Shaer explained that Ismail's condition is now stable after the severe bleeding stopped and his vital signs returned. He noted that other injuries to the rest of his body and upper limbs were treated, and that he will require several more surgeries that will be performed at a later date.

A video clip obtained by Al Jazeera showed the condition of the two colleagues immediately after they were targeted by the Israeli drone. They were clearly wearing protective vests and had the press logo on them, which could not be missed by the naked eye, as well as by surveillance and filming cameras.

On Monday, the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced the martyrdom of two Palestinian journalists as a result of Israeli shelling of the city of Rafah and the town of Jabalia, south and north of the Gaza Strip. This brings the death toll of journalists killed to 126 since October 7.

Gaza's government media condemned the Israeli occupation army's targeting of the Al Jazeera crew for the fifth time, stating that the targeting of the crew is part of the intimidation of journalists and a failed attempt to obscure the truth.

أصيب مراسل الجزيرة إسماعيل أبو عمر والزميل المصور أحمد مطر بجروح خطيرة إثر استهدافهما بطائرة مسيّرة إسرائيلية في منطقة ميراج شمال مدينة رفح الواقعة جنوبي قطاع غزة.

وأفاد مراسل الجزيرة مؤمن الشرافي بأن طائرة مسيرة إسرائيلية أطلقت صاروخا واحدا على الأقل باتجاه الزميلين في استهداف مباشر، مما أدى بشكل فوري إلى بتر ساق الزميل إسماعيل أبو عمر اليمنى وإصابة اليسرى إصابة بالغة، كما أصيب في مختلف أنحاء جسده بجروح خطيرة نتيجة شظايا الصاروخ.

وأضاف الشرافي أن المصور أحمد مطر أصيب في إحدى يديه إصابة بالغة، فضلا عن جروح في باقي أنحاء جسده، وقد تم نقل الزميلين من قبل شهود عيان إلى مستشفى ميداني في المنطقة لإجراء الإسعافات الأولية، قبل أن تصل سيارات الإسعاف وتنقلهما إلى المستشفى الأوروبي.

وأشار مراسل الجزيرة إلى أن الزميلين تم إدخالهما إلى غرفة العمليات لإجراء عمليات جراحية عاجلة وطارئة.

بدوره، أفاد الطبيب محمد الشاعر المختص في قسم جراحة الأوعية بالمستشفى الأوروبي، بأن العملية الجراحية الأولى انتهت للزميل إسماعيل أبو عمر، وتم خلالها إجراء بتر من أعلى الركبة في قدمه اليمنى ووقف النزيف في قدمه اليسرى,

وأوضح الشاعر أن حالة الزميل إسماعيل باتت مستقرة بعد وقف النزيف الحاد وعودة العلامات الحيوية، مشيرا إلى أنه تم التعامل مع إصابات أخرى في باقي جسمه وأطرافه العلوية، وأنه يحتاج إلى عدة عمليات أخرى سيتم إجراءها في وقت لاحق.

وأمس الاثنين، أعلن المكتب الإعلامي الحكومي في قطاع غزة استشهاد صحفيتين فلسطينيتين جراء قصف إسرائيلي على مدينة رفح وبلدة جباليا جنوب وشمال القطاع، مما رفع حصيلة الصحفيين الشهداء إلى 126 منذ 7 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول الماضي.
