New video obtained by CNN reveals that the second Israeli strike on the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, last Monday was actually two close strikes, with the second and third strikes appearing to have caused most of the deaths.

A frame-by-frame analysis of another video obtained by CNN from the same timeframe shows two more shells fired at the hospital. One struck the stairwell where medics had gathered; a split second later, another shell exploded in almost the same spot.

The two shells seen in the new video, fired so closely together, were likely rockets from a "multi-purpose" tank gun, such as the Israeli M339, according to an analysis by weapons expert and director of the Armament Research Services firm N.R. Jenzen-Jones.

Jenzen-Jones said the damage seen after the strikes was consistent with this type of munition, with clear evidence of blast and fragmentation damage.

The weapons expert added that the impact of two shells fired at the same time suggests that two tanks may have fired simultaneously. It's difficult to conclude much from this, but it points to a more carefully coordinated attack, rather than a single tank firing at a target. Modern tank guns, equipped with sensors and modern tank systems, are extremely accurate.

In a horrific video filmed after the second and third strikes, several bodies can be seen on the stairs upstairs and downstairs. After the victims were taken into the hospital, photos taken by a Gaza Health Ministry employee show blood stains on several floors of the stairwell.

The attack on the hospital occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. local time last Monday, when an apparent tank shell struck a balcony at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, killing a Reuters photographer and others.

Nine minutes later, while a team of rescue workers and other journalists were providing aid to the victims, they were targeted again when the Israeli army opened fire on the hospital, a tactic known as the "double strike." Video Playback

The first strike hit the outer stairwell of Nasser Hospital, where Reuters cameraman Hossam al-Masri was filming, at approximately 10:08 a.m. local time in Gaza (3:08 a.m. EST). Al-Masri was killed and his camera went off-air.

About nine minutes passed between the first strike and the next two, during which time paramedics, civil defense personnel, and journalists rushed to the fourth floor to rescue the first victims and document the attack.

Hatem Omar, another Reuters contractor, was filming the rescue efforts from above, while Al-Ghad TV was broadcasting live video of ambulance crews on the stairwell from the ground below the hospital.

Moments later, at 10:17 a.m. local time (3:17 a.m. EST), the second and third strikes struck.

Omar, who was wounded, told CNN from his hospital bed on Monday: "Journalists, patients, nurses, and civil defense were on the stairwell." We were directly targeted.

Israel faced global condemnation for its successive strikes this week on the largest hospital in southern Gaza, which killed at least 22 people, including health workers, emergency responders, and five journalists.

Deliberately targeting rescue workers, journalists, and other civilians violates international humanitarian law and constitutes a war crime.

Last Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the incident as a "tragic mistake."

The five journalists killed were: Mohammed Salama, an Al Jazeera cameraman in Gaza; Reuters contractor Hossam al-Masri; freelance journalist Mariam Abu Daqqa; freelance journalist Moaz Abu Taha; and freelance journalist Ahmed Abu Aziz.

وقع الهجوم على المستشفى بعد الساعة العاشرة صباحا بقليل بالتوقيت المحلي الاثنين الماضي، عندما أصاب قذيفة دبابة على ما يبدو شرفة في مستشفى ناصر بخان يونس، ما أسفر عن استشهاد مصوّر لوكالة رويترز وآخرين.

والاثنين الماضي، أقرّ رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو بأن الحادث كان "خطأ مأساويا".

الصحفيون الخمسة الذين استشهدوا هم: محمد سلامة، مصور قناة الجزيرة في غزة والصحفي المتعاقد مع رويترز حسام المصري، والصحفية المستقلة مريم أبو دقة، والصحفي معاذ أبو طه، والصحفي المستقل أحمد أبو عزيز.
