The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that the failed kidnapping of martyr Ahmed Kamel Sarhan in the southern Gaza Strip is "a new failure for the fascist army and its terrorist leadership," calling on the international community to condemn "the crime of kidnapping Sarhan's wife and child and to intervene immediately to protect and release them." In a statement, Hamas said that "the Zionist force's kidnapping of the wife and child of martyr Sarhan and using them as human shields is a flagrant violation of humanitarian norms," and held "the occupation government fully responsible for the lives of Sarhan's wife and child and all the kidnapped persons in its prisons and detention centers."

قالت حركة المقاومة الإسلامية (حماس) إن فشل اختطاف الشهيد أحمد كامل سرحان جنوبي قطاع غزة "فشل جديد للجيش الفاشي وقيادته الإرهابية"، مطالبة المجتمع الدولي بإدانة "جريمة اختطاف زوجة سرحان وطفله وبالتدخل الفوري لحمايتهما والإفراج عنهما".

وفي بيان لها، قالت حركة حماس إن "اختطاف القوة الصهيونية زوجة وطفل الشهيد سرحان واستخدامهما دروعا بشرية انتهاك صارخ للأعراف الإنسانية"، وحملت "حكومة الاحتلال المسؤولية الكاملة عن حياة زوجة سرحان وطفله وكل المختطفين في سجونه ومعتقلاته".
