The Deadliest War on Journalists in History Published on 10/7/2025 | Last updated: 10/10/2025 12:34 (Makkah Time) The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip enters its third year, with only the rising death toll remaining unchanged. Despite the global condemnation that has reached its peak, Israel has continued to reap the lives of Palestinian journalists without hesitation, punishing them for resuming their role in conveying images of horrors and atrocities in the Strip.
They have remained the eyes and ears of the world, despite what has been described as the worst massacre of journalists in history. The number of martyrs of the word exceeds the combined number of journalists killed in the American Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Yugoslavia, and Afghanistan, according to the findings of the Costs of War Project at Brown University.

Because the martyred journalists sacrificed their most precious possessions to document the suffering of hundreds of thousands of afflicted people in the Gaza Strip, it is no less important to document their stories. We have attempted to capture concise summaries of their stories and dreams, which Israel cruelly extinguished, in the hope that we may serve as a reminder of their great sacrifices and the magnitude of our loss of an exceptional generation of brave journalists.
We would like to point out that we relied on data issued by the Government Media Office in Gaza regarding the list of martyred journalists. However, several organizations have reported higher numbers of journalists killed during the war.

First Quarter of the War: The number of Palestinian journalists killed between October 7, 2023, and January 7, 2024 is 114.

The second quarter of the war: 32 Palestinian journalists were killed between January 7, 2024, and April 7, 2024. The third quarter of the war: Palestinian journalists were killed between April 7, 2024, and July 7, 2024 (14 journalists were killed).

The fourth quarter of the war: Palestinian journalists were killed between July 7, 2024, and October 7, 2024 (18 journalists were killed). The fifth quarter of the war: Palestinian journalists were killed between October 7, 2024, and January 7, 2025 (24 journalists were killed). الحرب الأشد فتكا بالصحفيين في التاريخPublished On 7/10/2025|آخر تحديث: 10/10/2025 12:34 (توقيت مكة)تدخل الحرب الإسرائيلية على قطاع غزة عامها الثالث ولا تغيير إلا في عدّاد الموت المتصاعد. فرغم التنديد العالمي الذي بلغ ذروته، فإن إسرائيل واصلت حصد أرواح الصحفيين الفلسطينيين دون تردد، عقابا لهم على استئناف أدوارهم في نقل صور الأهوال والفظائع في القطاع.
فقد ظلوا عيون وآذان العالم، رغم المقتلة التي وصفت بالأسوأ تاريخيا على الصحفيين، إذ تجاوز عدد شهداء الكلمة مجموع من قتلوا من الصحفيين في الحرب الأهلية الأميركية، والحربين العالميتين الأولى والثانية، وحرب كوريا، وفيتنام، ويوغوسلافيا، وأفغانستان، وفق ما خلص إليه مشروع "تكاليف الحرب" التابع لجامعة براون الأميركية.

ولأن الصحفيين الشهداء جادوا بأثمن ما لديهم في سبيل توثيق ما يواجهه مئات الآلاف من المنكوبين في القطاع، فليس أقل من توثيق قصصهم، إذ حاولنا تسجيل خلاصات مكثفة من حكاياتهم وأحلامهم التي أطفأتها إسرائيل بكل قسوة، عسى أن نذكّر بعظيم تضحياتهم، وبمقدار خسارتنا لجيل استثنائي من الصحفيين الشجعان.
ونود أن نشير إلى أننا اعتمدنا على البيانات الصادرة عن المكتب الإعلامي الحكومي في غزة فيما يتعلق بقائمة الصحفيين الشهداء، غير أن هناك مؤسسات متعددة أحصت أرقاما أعلى من الصحفيين الذين قضوا نحبهم خلال الحرب.
