Kamal, who used to stand beside his brother selling coffee from early morning until evening, was racing against time to help his family, who live between a tent and a shelter school, after tasting the bitterness of displacement repeatedly since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip in October 2023. Kamal’s martyrdom His brother Eid said in a voice choked with pain, “Kamal asked me to go to another place for a while. Only moments passed until I heard the sound of bombing. I ran towards the place, but it was too late, and Kamal was martyred there, in the place where he used to sell coffee to his customers.” In the home of the stricken family, Salman Marish, Kamal’s father, was unable to He concealed his grief as he spoke about his son, whom he described as “the favorite little one and the main breadwinner of the family.” Speaking to Al Jazeera Mubasher, the father added, “He was loved by everyone. He would leave at six in the morning and return shortly before sunset. He would sell coffee all day, then run off to play with his fellow children.” The father recalled the moment he heard the sound of the bombing: “My heart sank immediately. I couldn’t move, even though the site was close to the displacement tent we were living in.” He added, “I felt that something had happened to Kamal.” Childhood Dreams Kamal was not just a small coffee seller; he was a child with dreams beyond his years. His father said, "He dreamed of becoming an engineer, to build a tower in Gaza and contribute to its reconstruction after all this destruction." Kamal was martyred in an Israeli massacre that targeted a pastry shop and a popular market near Al-Shifa Medical Complex, resulting in at least 17 martyrs, most of them children and vendors, in addition to more than 50 wounded. The death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has lasted for a year and seven months, has risen to more than 52,800 martyrs, including about 18,000 children.
