"What will I tell my brother when he wakes up?" asks Ali, the brother of Dr. Hamdi al-Najjar, nine of whose children were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the family home in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, on Friday afternoon. "Can I tell him that your children were martyred? I don't know how to tell him." Only Hamdi and his son Adam survived the airstrike, while his wife, Alaa, also a doctor, worked at Nasser Hospital in the city. In the mourning tent, Ali al-Najjar said on Sunday, "On Friday afternoon, my brother's house was targeted without warning in Khan Yunis... I ran to the site and found the house like a biscuit, a pile of rubble. My brother and his children were under it." He added, "Civil Defense arrived to extinguish the fire resulting from the targeting of the house and found the charred bodies of one of the children scattered outside." He continued, trembling, "I found my brother Hamdi lying on the ground, his head bleeding, his hand severed, and covered in rubble. I tried to search for the children." "I found Adam burned," the man explained. "I took him in my car and drove him to the hospital. Civil defense recovered my brother Hamdi and took him to the hospital. His injury was very serious." According to a medical source, Adam, who is ten years old, had his hand amputated and suffers burns all over his body. The father and son are in the intensive care unit at Nasser Hospital, which lacks even the most basic medical facilities, according to the director general of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Bursh. - "No features of them" - In response to a question about the incident, the Israeli occupation army said it "bombed a number of suspects who were observed operating from a building" near its forces. It added that "the Khan Yunis area is a dangerous war zone," and continued, "The claim regarding harm to uninvolved civilians is under review." Alaa's mother, Alaa, was attending to injured children who had just arrived at Nasser Hospital when she heard the news that her house had been bombed by Israel. She rushed there without a clue and was shocked to find the charred bodies of her children pulled from under the rubble. Sahar al-Najjar told AFP that her sister Alaa, after learning of the bombing, "ran home and found it completely destroyed over the heads of her children and husband. The house had been reduced to a pile of rubble." Ali said, "My brother's wife, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, arrived running because there was no transportation. The children were pulled out charred. When Alaa saw this sight, she started screaming and crying." He added that she recognized the charred body of her daughter, Nibal, and began calling her name. - "Death is better than this torture." - In a tent crowded with mourners, Alaa, a well-known pediatrician in her city, sat in shock, surrounded by women who appeared to be deeply grieving. The sounds of explosions from the relentless Israeli bombardment could be heard. Sahar, wearing a black abaya, said as she sobbed, "Nine of the children were charred and burned, and the tenth and his father are in critical condition." She continued, describing the horror of the scene: "I couldn't see my sister's children in shrouds... It was a huge shock. I didn't recognize any of them. They had no features due to the severity of the burns. It was a huge tragedy." Mohammed, a relative of Alaa, confirmed: "The loss is huge. Alaa is in great shock. May God protect her." يتساءل علي شقيق الطبيب حمدي النجار الذي استشهد تسعة من أبنائه بغارة إسرائيلية على بيت العائلة في خان يونس جنوبيّ قطاع غزة ظهر الجمعة، "ماذا سأقول لأخي عندما يستيقظ؟ هل أستطيع أن أبلغك بأن أطفالك استشهدوا! لا أعلم كيف أقول له ذلك". لم ينجُ من الغارة الجوية سوى حمدي وابنه آدم، بينما كانت زوجته آلاء وهي أيضا طبيبة، تمارس عملها في مستشفى ناصر في المدينة. في خيمة العزاء، يقول علي النجار الأحد "ظهر الجمعة تم استهداف منزل أخي دون سابق إنذار في خان يونس... أسرعت للمكان مهرولا ووجدت البيت مثل البسكويت، كومة ركام وكان أخي وأطفاله تحت الركام". ويضيف "وصل الدفاع المدني لإطفاء الحريق نتيجة استهداف المنزل فوجدوا جثة من الأطفال متفحمة وكانت متطايرة بالخارج"، ويتابع وهو يرتجف "وجدت أخي حمدي ملقى على الأرض ورأسه ينزف ويده مبتورة ومغطى بالركام، حاولت البحث عن الأطفال". ويشرح الرجل "وجدت آدم وقد كان محروقا، أخذته بسيارتي وتوجهت به إلى المستشفى. والدفاع المدني انتشل أخي حمدي وتوجه به للمستشفى وكانت إصابته خطيرة جدا". أما الطفل آدم البالغ عشر سنوات بحسب مصدر طبي، فقد بترت يده ويعاني من حروق في أنحاء جسمه. ويرقد الأب والابن في قسم العناية المكثّفة في مستشفى ناصر الذي يفتقد إلى أبسط مقومات العلاج، بحسب المدير العام لوزارة الصحة في غزة منير البُرش. - "لا ملامح لهم" - ردا على سؤال عن الواقعة، قال جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي إنه "قصف عددا من المشتبه بهم الذين تم رصدهم وهم ينشطون من مبنى" بالقرب من قواته. وأضاف أن "منطقة خان يونس هي منطقة حرب خطرة"، وتابع أن "الادعاء المتعلق بالضرر الذي لحق بمدنيين غير متورطين هو قيد المراجعة". كانت الأم آلاء تتابع أطفالا مصابين وصلوا للتوّ إلى مستشفى ناصر، حين انهال عليها نبأ تعرض منزلها لقصف إسرائيلي، فهرعت إليه من غير هدى وصدمت بانتشال جثث أطفالها المتفحمة من تحت الركام. تروي سهر النجار لفرانس برس أن شقيقتها آلاء بعد عملت بالقصف، "ذهبَت ركضا إلى المنزل حتى وجدت المنزل دُمّر بالكامل فوق رؤوس أطفالها وزوجها، المنزل تحوّل لكومة أحجار". ويقول علي "وصلت زوجة أخي الدكتورة آلاء النجار ركضا فلم يكن هناك مواصلات، وتم استخراج الأطفال متفحمين، عندما رأت آلاء هذا المنظر أخذت بالصراخ والبكاء". ويضيف أنها تعرفت إلى جثة ابنتها نيبال المتفحمة وأخذت تصرخ باسمها. - "الموت أرحم من هذا العذاب" - في خيمة ازدحمت بالمعزّين، جلست آلاء طبيبة الأطفال المعروفة في مدينتها وهي ما تزال تحت تأثير الصدمة الهائلة وتحيط بها نساء بدا عليهنّ الحزن الشديد، فيما تسمع أصوات انفجارات ناتجة عن القصف الإسرائيلي المتواصل. تقول سهر التي ارتدت عباءة سوداء وهي تبكي "تسعة من الأولاد كانوا متفحمين محروقين والطفل العاشر ووالده في حالة حرجة". وتتابع واصفة هول المشهد "لم أستطع أن أرى أطفال أختي في أكفان .. صدمة كبيرة، لم أتعرف لأي أحد فيهم، لا ملامح لهم من شدة الحروق، مأساة كبيرة". ويؤكد محمد وهو من أقرباء آلاء أن "المصاب جلل، آلاء تعاني من صدمة كبيرة، لها الله". ويتساءل علي "ماذا سأقول لأخي عندما يستيقظ؟ هل أستطيع أن أبلغك أن أطفالك استشهدوا! لا أعلم كيف أقول له ذلك، أنا دفنتهم في قبرين". ويضيف "لا يوجد مكان آمن بغزة... الموت أرحم من هذا العذاب".
