Lieutenant Colonel Zaher Alian, the director of the Beit Hanoun police station in the northern Gaza Strip, was martyred along with his nephew Ayman Alian in an Israeli airstrike on Friday morning. The General Directorate of Police in Gaza said in a press statement: "We condemn the Israeli occupation's assassination of the director of the Beit Hanoun police station in the northern Gaza Strip, Lieutenant Colonel Zaher Ayman Alian, in an airstrike in the Qalibu area north of the Strip this morning." It added: "As we mourn Lieutenant Colonel Alian, we affirm that we will continue to carry out our duty to support citizens in light of the raging war of extermination against our people. The repeated targeting of police commanders and personnel by the occupation will not push us to back down from our duty." It continued: "We renew our appeal to the international community and relevant institutions to urgently intervene and pressure the occupation to stop targeting the police force, as it is a civil protection force protected under international law."

استشهد المقدم زاهر عليان، مدير شرطة مدينة بيت حانون شمال قطاع غزة، برفقة ابن شقيقه أيمن عليان بغارة إسرائيلية، صباح اليوم الجمعة.

وقالت المديرية العامة للشرطة بغزة، في تصريح صحفي: "ندين إقدام الاحتلال الإسرائيلي على جريمة اغتيال مدير مركز شرطة مدينة بيت حانون شمال قطاع غزة، مقدم/ زاهر أيمن عليان، بغارة جوية في منطقة قليبو شمال القطاع صباح اليوم".

وأضافت: "وإذ ننع المقدم عليان، لنؤكد أننا مستمرون في القيام بواجبها في إسناد المواطنين في ظل حرب الإبادة المستعرة ضد شعبنا، وإن الاستهداف المتكرر من قبل الاحتلال لقادة الشرطة وعناصرنا لن يدفعنا للتراجع عن مواصلة أداء الواجب".

وتابعت: "نجدد مناشدتنا للمجتمع الدولي والمؤسسات المعنية، بالتدخل العاجل والضغط على الاحتلال لوقف استهداف جهاز الشرطة باعتباره جهاز حماية مدنية محمي بموجب القانون الدولي".
