A photo from a birthday... turned into an elegy Today I was shocked like all the days of the war... but this time the shock was more severe and harsher... I saw the photo of the young Rami Sultan, a nurse in the Ministry of Health, and his wife Asmaa Al-Barsh, my cousin, the girl who dreamed of a promising future, and their children, as they celebrated their birthday in the past. But fate was cruel, Rami and his two children were killed today as a result of Israeli airstrikes west of the Al-Tawam area in the northern Gaza Strip. As for Asmaa, who dreamed of a stable life and a bright future, she sustained severe injuries and it is said that her feet may need to be amputated. This photo is being republished today, not as a celebration, but as an elegy for them and for a life that deserved to be lived with dignity

صورة من عيد ميلاد ... تحولت إلى رثاء اليوم صدمت ككل أيام الحرب .. لكن هذه المرة كانت الصدمة أشد وأقسى ... رأيت صورة الشاب رامي السلطان، الممرض في وزارة الصحة، وزوجته أسماء البرش إبنة عمي، الفتاة الحالمة بمستقبل واعد ، وأطفالهما، وهم يحتفلون بعيد ميلادهم في أيام ماضية. لكن القدر كان قاسيا فقد قُتل رامي وطفليه اليوم نتيجة قصف الطائرات الإسرائيلية غرب منطقة التوام شمال القطاع . أما أسماء التي كانت تحلم بحياة مستقرة ومستقبل زاهر، فأصيبت بإصابات بالغة ويُقال إن قدميها قد تحتاج للبتر . هذه الصورة تُعاد اليوم نشرها ليس احتفالا بل رثاء لهم ولحياة كانت تستحق أن تُعاش بكرامة
