“He went to get flour… and returned wrapped in a shroud.” Today, a mother’s heart cries, not only for her son, the martyr Hussam Bassam Wafi, but also for the story of a displaced person who went out carrying the hunger of his six children on his shoulders, searching for a bag of flour to satisfy their hunger and extinguish the fire of hunger that burned in their little bellies. Hussam went out for no other reason than to be a father… to protect, to provide security, to feed. He went out amidst death and destruction, and returned carried on shoulders, a martyr.
