(Obituary and Condolence Statement)
Secretary General Comrade Saleh Raafat, on his own behalf and on behalf of the Political Bureau, the Central Committee, all party organizations, cadres, and members in the homeland, refugee centers, and diaspora, offers his deepest and most sincere condolences for the martyrdom of
(Comrade Bassam Faeq Hassouna, member of the Central Committee of the Palestinian Democratic Union (FIDA)).
Raafat stated that Comrade Bassam was martyred in an Israeli bombardment of the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, where he was staying at the home of (Abu Shaaban Al-Sharafa), his wife's father, during the iftar hours of yesterday evening, Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The Secretary-General added that the passing of Comrade Bassam Hassouna, who was martyred at the age of 51, leaving behind a wife and five children (two daughters and two sons), the eldest of whom was Muhammad, is a huge loss for our Fida Party and the entire Palestinian national movement, particularly the prisoners' movement, as he was responsible for the prisoners' file within our party and within the framework of the national and Islamic forces and factions in the Gaza Strip. This is evidenced by the weekly sit-ins and solidarity vigils in front of the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza, which he never left.
Comrade Saleh Raafat continued, saying that our comrade Abu Muhammad was a first-class intellectual, and despite his difficult financial circumstances, he was keen to complete his higher education. His last degree, a master's degree in media, was obtained a year ago. He worked for the Palestinian Ministry of Culture and was active in the Palestinian cultural sector as a whole. Raafat concluded by offering his special condolences to the family of Comrade Bassam, his wife, sons, and daughters, and to all members of the honorable Hassouna family in the Gaza Strip and wherever they may be. He emphasized that we will remain loyal to the blood of our martyred comrade and all martyrs, and that we will not deviate from the path of struggle. We will continue to fight alongside all our people, forces, and factions, and that we will not relinquish our people's right to struggle by all means they deem appropriate to expel the occupation and defeat it from our land. The fate of the occupier is to end, including the war of extermination and ethnic cleansing it is waging against the Gaza Strip in particular and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories in general. May mercy, peace, and blessings be upon the soul of Comrade Bassam Hassouna, and we pledge to continue the path of struggle.

وقال رأفت إن الرفيق بسام ارتقى شهيدا في قصف إسرائيلي على محيط مستشفى الشفاء بمدينة غزة حيث كان يقيم في منزل (أبو شعبان الشرفا) والد زوجته وذلك في ساعات الإفطار من مساء يوم أمس الأربعاء الموافق ٢٠/٣/٢٠٢٤ .
وأضاف الأمين العام أن رحيل الرفيق بسام حسونة، والذي ارتقى شهيدا عن ٥١ عاما مخلفا وراءه زوجة و ٥ أولاد (بنتان وابنان) أكبرهم محمد، يعد خسارة فادحة لحزبنا "فدا" وعموم الحركة الوطنية الفلسطينية وخصوصا الحركة الأسيرة حيث كان مسؤولا لملف الأسرى في حزبنا وفي إطار القوى والفصائل الوطنية والإسلامية في قطاع غزة وتشهد على ذلك الاعتصامات والوقفات التضامنية الأسبوعية أمام مقر الصليب الأحمر في غزة والتي كان لا يفارقها أبدا.
وتابع الرفيق صالح رأفت أن رفيقنا أبا محمد كان مثقفا من الطراز الأول، ورغم ظروفه المادية الصعبة حرص على اكمال دراسته العليا وكانت آخر درجة علمية حصل عليها قبل عام هي الماجستير في الإعلام وكان يعمل على كادر وزارة الثقافة الفلسطينية ونشيطا في عموم القطاع الثقافي الفلسطيني.
وختم رأفت بتوجيه العزاء الخاص لأسرة الرفيق بسام وزوجته وأبنائه وبناته وفي العموم لكافة أفراد عائلة حسونة الكرام في قطاع غزة وأينما تواجدوا، مؤكدا أننا سنبقى الأوفياء لدم رفيقنا الشهيد وعموم الشهداء ولن نحيد عن درب النضال وسنستمر بالكفاح إلى جانب كل أبناء شعبنا وقواه وفصائله ولا تنازل عن حق شعبنا بالنضال بكل الوسائل التي يراها مناسبة لطرد الاحتلال ودحره عن أرضنا وأن مصير المحتل إلى زوال بما في ذلك حرب الابادة والتطهير العرقي التي يشنها على قطاع غزة خصوصا وباقي الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة عموما.
