A mother mourns her children who, she says, were "just children"
killed in an Israeli airstrike while waiting for aid.
On Thursday morning, Iman al-Nouri's two-year-old son, Siraj, woke up crying from hunger and asking for food.
Sama, Siraj's 14-year-old cousin, agreed to take him and his two older brothers, Omar, 9, and Amir, 5, to a health clinic in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza Strip.
"The clinic was still closed, so the children were sitting on the pavement," Iman told the BBC. "Suddenly, we heard the sound of shelling."
I went to my husband and said, "Hatem, your children have gone to the clinic."
When Iman, a 32-year-old mother of five, heard the explosion, she rushed to the scene and found her sons and niece lying on a donkey cart, which was being used to transport the injured to the hospital due to a shortage of ambulances. Amir and Sama were killed, while Omar and Siraj suffered severe injuries.
“Omar was still breathing at the time, and they tried to revive him. He needed a blood transfusion, and it took an hour for blood to become available, but he didn’t survive,” Iman said.
“Why did they die? Why? What was their fault?” she asked.
“They had dreams like any other children in the world. If you gave them a small toy, they would have been so happy. They were just children.”
Iman said Siraj’s head was bleeding and he had lost one of his eyes, an image she can’t forget.
“He had fractures in his skull. According to the doctor, it wasn’t just a hemorrhage, but a severe brain hemorrhage,” she continued. “How long can he survive on oxygen? Two of them are already dead. If only someone could help me hold on longer.”
Sadly, doctors said they were unable to treat Siraj. She pleaded, "Since 7:00 a.m. yesterday until now, he has been in the same condition. He is still breathing. His chest is rising and falling, and he is still breathing. Please save him." The Israeli military said of this brutal airstrike that it targeted a "Hamas terrorist" and expressed regret for any harm caused to "civilians," noting that the incident is under review.

في صباح يوم الخميس، استيقظ سراج، أصغر أبناء إيمان النوري البالغ من العمر عامين، وهو يبكي من شدة الجوع، وطلب الحصول على الطعام.
وافقت سما، قريبة سراج البالغة من العمر 14 عاماً، على اصطحابه برفقة شقيقيه الأكبر منه سناً، عمر (9 أعوام) وأمير (5 أعوام)، إلى عيادة صحية في دير البلح، وسط قطاع غزة.
قالت إيمان لبي بي سي: "كانت العيادة الطبية لا تزال مغلقة، فجلس الأطفال على الرصيف، وفجأة سمعنا دوي القصف".
توجهت إلى زوجي وقلت له: "يا حاتم، أولادك ذهبوا إلى العيادة الطبية".
عندما سمعت إيمان، الأم البالغة من العمر 32 عاماً ولديها خمسة أطفال، صوت الانفجار، هرعت إلى مكان الحادث، لتجد أبنائها وابنة أختها ممددين على عربة يجرها حمار، كانت تُستخدم لنقل المصابين إلى المستشفى بسبب نقص سيارات الإسعاف.
قتل كل من أمير وسما، في حين تعرض عمر وسراج لإصابات بالغة.
قالت إيمان: "كان عمر لا يزال يتنفس حينها، وحاولوا إنعاشه. احتاج إلى نقل دم، واستغرق الأمر ساعة حتى توفر له الدم، ولكنه لم ينجُ".
وأضافت متسائلة: "لماذا رحلوا؟ لماذا؟ ما ذنبهم؟".
"كان لديهم أحلام مثل أي أطفال آخرين في العالم. لو أعطيتهم لعبة صغيرة، لكانوا سعداء جداً. لقد كانوا مجرد أطفال".
قالت إيمان إن رأس سراج كان ينزف وقد فقد إحدى عينيه، صورة لا تستطيع نسيانها.
وأضافت: "كان يعاني من كسور في جمجمته، بحسب الطبيب، لم يكن نزيفاً فقط، بل نزيفاً حاداً في دماغه." وتابعت: "إلى متى يمكن أن يعيش على الأوكسجين؟ اثنان منهم رحلوا بالفعل. لو يستطيع أحد مساعدتي على الصمود لفترة أطول".
ومن المؤسف أن الأطباء قالوا إنهم غير قادرين على علاج سراج.
وتوسلت قائلة: "منذ الساعة السابعة من صباح أمس وحتى الآن، وهو على نفس الحالة. لا يزال يتنفس، صدره يرتفع وينخفض، ولا يزال يتنفس. أرجوكم أنقذوه".
وقال الجيش الإسرائيلي عن هذه الغارة الغاشمة إنه استهدف "إرهابياً من حماس" وأعرب عن أسفه لأي أذى لحق بالـ"مدنيين"، مشيراً إلى أن الحادث قيد المراجعة.
