The number of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza rises

The number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, has risen to 237, following the announcement Sunday night of the deaths of five journalists, including Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qariqa.

Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, reported that the bombing of a journalists' tent in front of the complex's gate resulted in the deaths of seven people, including five journalists.

The Government Media Office in Gaza stated that with the assassination of these five journalists, the number of journalists killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip during the offensive has now reached 237.

The Media Office strongly condemned the heinous and horrific crime committed by the Israeli army in assassinating the journalists, emphasizing that the assassination was premeditated and deliberate, targeting the tent where they were located. The office affirmed that the targeting of journalists and media outlets by Israeli warplanes constitutes a full-fledged war aimed at silencing the truth and obscuring the evidence of genocide. It is a prelude to the occupation's criminal plan to cover up past and future massacres perpetrated and intended in the Gaza Strip.

The media office called upon the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and all international press and human rights organizations worldwide to condemn these crimes and take immediate action to ensure the full protection of Palestinian journalists and media outlets in Gaza, and to guarantee that the occupation leaders are held accountable for their crimes against press freedom and the right to access information.

For its part, Al Jazeera held the Israeli army and government responsible for the targeting and assassination of colleagues Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qariqa in Gaza City. During its aggression against Gaza, the occupation forces deliberately target journalists and media outlets, injuring nearly 400 journalists, arresting 40 others, and destroying the majority of local and international media headquarters operating in the Strip. They have also forced all local radio stations to close due to displacement and the lack of essential resources for journalistic work, particularly electricity and internet access.

ارتفع عدد الصحفيين الفلسطينيين الذين استشهدوا منذ بدء حرب الإبادة الجماعية التي يشنها الكيان الصهيوني على قطاع غزة، في السابع من أكتوبر 2023، إلى 237 شهيدا، وذلك بعد الإعلان ليلة الأحد عن استشهاد خمسة صحفيين بينهم مراسلان لقناة الجزيرة أنس الشريف ومحمد قريقع.
وأفاد مدير مجمع الشفاء الطبي بمدينة غزة محمد أبو سلمية، بأن قصف خيمة الصحفيين أمام بوابة مجمع الشفاء تسبب في استشهاد 7 أشخاص بينهم 5 صحفيين.
وقال المكتب الإعلامي الحكومي في غزة في بيان، إنه باغتيال الاحتلال للزملاء الصحفيين الخمسة يرتفع عدد الشهداء الصحفيين الذين قتلهم الاحتلال في قطاع غزة، خلال الإبادة الجماعية وحتى الآن، إلى 237 صحفيا.
وأدان المكتب الإعلامي بأشد العبارات الجريمة الوحشية البشعة والمروعة التي ارتكبها جيش الاحتلال باغتيال الصحفيين، مشددا على أن عملية الاغتيال تمت مع سبق الإصرار والترصد، بعد استهداف مقصود ومتعمد ومباشر للخيمة التي يتواجدون بها.
وأكد المكتب أن استهداف طائرات الاحتلال الصحفيين والمؤسسات الإعلامية حرب مكتملة الأركان، تهدف لإسكات الحقيقة وطمس معالم جرائم الإبادة الجماعية، وهي تمهيد لخطة الاحتلال الإجرامية للتغطية على المذابح الوحشية الماضية والقادمة التي نفذها وينوي تنفيذها في قطاع غزة.
وطالب المكتب الإعلامي الاتحاد الدولي للصحفيين، واتحاد الصحفيين العرب، وجميع الهيئات الصحفية والحقوقية الدولية في كل أنحاء العالم، بإدانة هذه الجرائم والتحرك العاجل لتأمين الحماية الكاملة للصحفيين الفلسطينيين والمؤسسات الإعلامية في غزة، وضمان محاسبة قادة الاحتلال على جرائمهم ضد حرية الصحافة والحق في الوصول إلى المعلومات.
بدورها حمّلت شبكة الجزيرة جيش الاحتلال وحكومته مسؤولية استهداف واغتيال الزميلين أنس الشريف ومحمد قريقع في مدينة غزة. وتتعمد قوات الاحتلال خلال عدوانها على غزة استهداف الصحفيين والمؤسسات الإعلامية، حيث أصابت ما يقرب من 400 صحفي، واعتقلت 40 آخرين، ودمرت غالبية مقرات المؤسسات المحلية والدولية العاملة في القطاع، كما أجبرت كافة الإذاعات المحلية على الإغلاق بسبب التهجير والنزوح وعدم توفر مقومات العمل الصحفي خاصة الكهرباء والإنترنت.
