These two photos are of our beloved martyred Sheikh Ismail Al-Hawrani, may God accept him. The first, with his fresh face, was taken before the war. The second was taken after he was besieged in the Third Battle of Jabalia, and no news of him was heard from him for four whole months, until people assumed he was dead. Ismail, a young man in his twenties, was besieged behind enemy lines for 120 days. He emerged from the frontier thin, pale-faced, with a long beard and falling hair. He seemed to have aged twenty years from the excesses he had endured. Yet his resolve never faltered, nor did his courage weaken by the slightest. He walked out to the people, smiling, repeating, "May the eyes of cowards never sleep."
