The man arrested in the al-Dhamir operation has died.

The international coalition released Ahmed Abdullah al-Masoud al-Badri after his arrest on October 18, 2025, in a raid in the city of al-Dhamir in the Damascus countryside. It later turned out that the raid was a mistake, as he was suspected of being a member of ISIS who had recently returned from the Syrian desert.

Al-Badri died in Harasta Hospital in the Damascus countryside after his release, succumbing to injuries sustained during the raid, which was carried out in conjunction with government forces, according to local sources. This was the first raid of its kind in the area.

The US military has not released any information about the incident. Meanwhile, the US envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, had commented on his X platform, saying, "Syria is back on our side," referring to the Syrian government's cooperation with the United States in combating terrorism, before announcing al-Badri's release and subsequent death.

البدري توفي في مشفى حرستا بريف دمشق، بعد الإفراج عنه، متأثرا بإصابة تعرض لها أثناء عملية الإنزال، التي نفذت برفقة قوات حكومية، بحسب مصادر محلية. في عملية إنزال هي الأولى من نوعها في المنطقة.
لم تصدر القوات الأمريكية أي معلومات عن الحادثة، فيما كان المبعوث الأميركي إلى سوريا، توماس براك، قد علّق عبر حسابه على منصة “إكس” قائلًا: “سوريا عادت إلى صفنا”، للإشارة لتعاون الحكومة السورية مع الولايات المتحدة بشأن محاربة الإرهاب، قبل أن يعلن الإفراج عن البدري ووفاته لاحقاً.
