On the first days of Operation "Am K'Lavi", during the night between Friday and Saturday, an MDA Mobile Intensive Care Unit team, consisting of three wome Pparamedic Nitzan Oren, EMT Irit Naor, and senior EMT Eti Cohen, was dispatched to a routine incident in the Dan Region
During their drive, an alert was received from the Home Front Command, announcing that rockets had been launched from Iran toward Israel and that sirens would soon sound.Eti, who was driving the ambulance, pulled over to the side of the road. When the siren began, all three women moved away from the vehicle, laid on the ground, covered their heads with their hands, and followed the Home Front Command’s safety instructions.
"If we hadn’t acted that way, we wouldn’t be here today," said MDA paramedic Nitzan Oren.A rocket fell just a few hundred meters away from them, causing many injuries. Due to the powerful blast, the mobile intensive care ambulance was severely damaged and rendered unuseable. The three MDA volunteers who had taken proper cover following the Home Front Command's guidelines, were lightly injured and evacuated to the hospital for further medical evaluation.
"Our most important message to the public is to follow the Home Front Command's safety instructions. You can't be complacent in a situation like this. If instead of lying down, we had been sitting on the road or near the ambulance, we probably wouldn’t have survived, or at best, we’d have been evacuated in critical condition. Protect yourselves. It saves lives," the MDA team explained.Zaki Heller
