An Israeli airstrike targeted a popular café known as "Al-Baqah Rest House" on the Gaza City beach at dawn on Monday, June 30, killing approximately 34 Palestinians and wounding dozens of civilians, including journalists, women, and the elderly.

According to eyewitnesses and field reports, the strike targeted a gathering of civilians who had sought refuge on the beach as the only available outlet to escape the bombing and the collapse of living conditions under the ongoing blockade.

An investigation reveals the falsity of the Israeli narrative about the beach resort massacre.

After the massacre, the Israeli military spokesperson said that the attack on the café was aimed at targeting "Hamas terrorist elements." He noted that the strikes were carried out after careful aerial surveillance, stressing that "measures were taken to reduce the risk of harm to civilians" before the raid, and explaining that the operation was "under review."

However, the British newspaper The Guardian revealed in an investigation into the café massacre that the Israeli army used a 500-pound (230 kg) US-made MK-82 bomb, a highly explosive and wide-ranging weapon, during the raid on the "Baqaa Rest House."

According to munitions experts and an examination of photographs of bomb fragments taken from the site of the massacre, the weapon used was a conventional, unguided aerial bomb with a high destructive power, often used to destroy infrastructure or heavy military targets, not civilian areas.

International humanitarian law experts confirmed that using a bomb of this size in a densely populated civilian area is "unlawful and may constitute a war crime."

The occupation knew the area was crowded with civilians.

The investigation revealed that the targeted café was a two-story building clearly exposed from the air, frequented by civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, seeking respite from the war. The occupation forces did not issue any evacuation orders for the area prior to the bombing, and no specific military targets were identified within.

Human Rights Watch researcher Gerry Simpson confirmed that "the Israeli military knew full well that the café was crowded, and that using this type of bomb in such a location would kill and injure a large number of civilians." He added that this "raises the likelihood that the attack was unlawful, disproportionate, and warrants investigation as a war crime."

Palestinian media outlets and social media accounts confirmed that the Israeli bombing of the beach resort killed approximately 34 Palestinians, including children, the elderly, and women.

استهدفت غارة جوية إسرائيلية، فجر يوم الاثنين 30 يونيو/حزيران، مقهى شعبيًا يُعرف بـ"استراحة الباقة" على شاطئ مدينة غزة، ما أودى بحياة حوالي 34 فلسطينيًّا وإصابة عشرات المدنيين، بينهم صحفيون ونساء ومسنون. 


ووفقًا لشهود عيان وتقارير ميدانية، فإن الغارة استهدفت تجمعًا للمدنيين الذين كانوا قد لجأوا إلى الشاطئ باعتباره المتنفس الوحيد المتاح للهروب من القصف والانهيار المعيشي في ظل الحصار المتواصل.

وبعد وقوع المجزرة، قال المتحدث العسكري باسم الجيش الإسرائيلي إن الهجوم على المقهى، كان لاستهداف "عناصر إرهابية من حركة حماس"، مشيرًا إلى أن الضربات نُفذت بعد مراقبة جوية دقيقة، مؤكدًا أنه "تم اتخاذ الإجراءات للحد من خطر إيذاء المدنيين" قبل تنفيذ الغارة، كم أوضح أن هذه العملية "قيد المراجعة".



لكن صحيفة ذا غارديان البريطانية كشفت في تحقيق لها عن مجزرة المقهى، أن الجيش الإسرائيلي استخدم قنبلة تزن 500 رطل (230 كغم) من طراز MK-82 أميركية الصُنع، والتي تُعد من الأسلحة شديدة الانفجار وواسعة التأثير، خلال الغارة التي استهدفت "استراحة الباقة".





وبحسب خبراء ذخيرة وفحص صور شظايا القنبلة الملتقطة من موقع المجزرة، فإن السلاح المستخدم هو قنبلة جوية تقليدية غير موجهة، ذات قدرة تدميرية عالية، غالبًا ما تُستخدم لتدمير البنى التحتية أو الأهداف العسكرية الثقيلة، لا المناطق المدنية.


وأكد خبراء في القانون الدولي الإنساني أن استخدام قنبلة بهذا الحجم في منطقة مدنية مكتظة يُعد "عملًا غير قانوني، وقد يُصنف جريمة حرب".

أوضح التحقيق أن المقهى المستهدف كان مكونًا من طابقين ومكشوفًا بشكل واضح من الجو، يقصده المدنيون، بمن فيهم النساء والأطفال وكبار السن، طلبًا للراحة وسط أجواء الحرب، ولم تُصدر قوات الاحتلال أي أوامر إخلاء للمنطقة قبيل القصف، ولم تُعرف أهداف عسكرية محددة داخله.


وأكد الباحث في منظمة "هيومن رايتس ووتش"، جيري سيمبسون، أن "الجيش الإسرائيلي يعلم جيدًا أن المقهى كان مكتظًا، وأن استخدام هذا النوع من القنابل في مثل هذا المكان سيؤدي إلى قتل وجرح عدد كبير من المدنيين"، مضيفًا أن ذلك "يرجح أن الهجوم غير قانوني، وغير متناسب، ويستدعي تحقيقًا كجريمة حرب".




وأكدت وسائل إعلامية وحسابات فلسطينية على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي، أن القصف الإسرائيلي على استراحة الشاطىء، أودى بحياة حوالي 34 فلسطينيًّا بينهم أطفال ومسنون ونساء.
