On Sunday, May 25, 2025, freelance journalist Osama al-Ashi was injured by shrapnel from a missile fired by an Israeli warplane at an apartment adjacent to his home in the al-Rimal neighborhood, west of Gaza City.

In detail, al-Ashi told a Sky News correspondent: "Israeli warplanes targeted our neighbors' building in the al-Rimal neighborhood, west of Gaza City, with a missile on Sunday evening. Shrapnel hit our apartment. I suffered shrapnel injuries to my right hand and bruises all over my body."
