Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qariqa killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza

Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qariqa, along with three cameramen, were killed Sunday evening in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a journalists' tent in Gaza City, in the northern Gaza Strip.

The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza reported the deaths of al-Sharif and Qariqa, as well as cameramen Ibrahim Daher, Mohammed Nawfal, and Mo'men Aliwa, as a result of an Israeli airstrike on their tent in front of the complex.

Half an hour before his death, Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif posted on his X platform that a heavy Israeli bombardment, using fire belts, was targeting the eastern and southern areas of Gaza City.

In the same context, the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip condemned “the heinous and horrific crime committed by the occupation army in assassinating five journalists following a direct attack on the journalists’ tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.”

The office added in a statement published on its Telegram channel that “the assassination was premeditated and deliberate, following a deliberate and direct attack on the journalists’ tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. This despicable crime also resulted in injuries to a number of other journalists.”

It noted that with the assassination of these five journalists, the number of journalists killed by the occupation in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing genocide has risen to 237.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with US support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to cease its operations.

The genocide left 61,330 Palestinian martyrs and 152,359 wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced people and a famine that claimed the lives of many.

وأفاد مدير مجمع الشفاء الطبي في غزة باستشهاد الشريف وقريقع إضافة إلى المصوّرِين إبراهيم ظاهر ومحمد نوفل ومؤمن عليوة، جراء قصف إسرائيلي على خيمتهم أمام مجمع الشفاء الطبي في مدينة غزة.

وكان مراسل الجزيرة أنس الشريف ذكر على حسابه في منصة أكس قبل استشهاده بنصف ساعة أنّ قصفاً إسرائيلياً عنيفاً مركَّزاً بأحزمة نارية يستهدف المناطق الشرقية والجنوبية من مدينة غزة.

في السياق نفسه أدان المكتب الحكومي في قطاع غزة “الجريمة الوحشية البشعة والمروعة التي ارتكبها جيش الاحتلال باغتيال خمسة من الصحفيين عقب قصف مباشر لخيمة الصحفيين بمحيط مستشفى الشفاء في مدينة غزة”.

وأضاف المكتب في بيان نشره على حسابه في منصة تليغرام أن “عملية الاغتيال جرت مع سبق الإصرار والترصد بعد استهداف مقصود ومتعمد ومباشر لخيمة الصحفيين في محيط مستشفى الشفاء بمدينة غزة، وقد أسفرت هذه الجريمة النكراء أيضاً عن إصابة عدد من الزملاء الصحفيين الآخرين”.

ولفت إلى أنه باغتيال الاحتلال للزملاء الصحفيين الخمسة يرتفع عدد الشهداء الصحفيين الذين قلتهم الاحتلال في قطاع غزة خلال الإبادة حتى الآن إلى 237.

ومنذ 7 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2023 ترتكب إسرائيل بدعم أمريكي إبادة في غزة، تشمل القتل والتجويع والتدمير والتهجير القسري، متجاهلة النداءات الدولية كافة وأوامر لمحكمة العدل الدولية بوقفها.

وخلّفَت الإبادة 61 ألفاً و330 شهيداً فلسطينياً و152 ألفاً و359 مصاباً، معظمهم أطفال ونساء، وما يزيد على 9 آلاف مفقود، إضافة إلى مئات آلاف النازحين ومجاعة أزهقت أرواح كثيرين.
