This is a video interview with Tehranchi's daughter Tahereh Tehranchi and her husband (his son-in-law) Mohammad Sadegh Nilforoushan.
The pair recount the night of the missile attack saying that they were out of town when they heard about an attack on the neighborhood where Tehranchi's apartment was located.
Nilforoushan says that Tehranchi and his wife regularly come with the couple ot the place they were staying at -- located out of town -- the night of the attack. Nilforoushan says he called Tehranchi to ask if him and his wife (Mojgan) were coming, but they said no, they would not be joining them.
Nilforoushan explains that the night of the attack he got an alert on his phone about the attck and as he scrolled down on his messages and then saw the building Aasatide Sarv where Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi's apartment is located. He says the building had a very distinct color and shape and goes on to say "it was a very difficult situation for me in that moment, both to comprehend what had taken place and realizing that I have to explain this situation to my wife (Tehranchi's daughter)."
"I had hoped in that moment that Tehranchi was not in the apartment that night," he says. "But that wasn't the case."
"We had reached out to different places (to see what's going on) and then we reached out to the security forces stationed there (likely around Tehranchi's home) and there was no answer."
"For years we expected that something like this would happen but for it to happen like this with his wife was something we weren't prepared for."
Nilforoushan says Tehranchi's son arrived at his father's apartment complex first--around 3:30/4am and then when they arrived (Nilforoushan and his wife) all the neighbors had already poured outside and it was a chaotic scene.
"We waited there for about an hour and saw firefighters and emergency responders there. The extent of the damage we saw was that there was not much left. The explosion was in a way that we saw Tehranchi's belongings (like his books) scattered in the building front of their apartment."
"With the sight of these belongings scattered around we were hoping that maybe they woiuld be alive too."
"At 9am they came to us and told us that the bodies of those in the apartment were found in special conditions."
Tehranchi's daughter, Tahereh says that the first messages she recieved about the location of the attack indicated that the missile strike occured in the Shahid Mahalati neighborhood.
"But the only message I opened on my phone that day showed my father's apartment building," she says.
"I didn't want to believe it, because since I saw it was Shahid Mahalati neighborhood, but the first word I heard in the video was that the attack occured at Farahzad Street."
"I still didn't want to believe it and wanted to think that my dad wasn't home [at the time of the attack]"
"I then called my brother who was asleep and asked him if he had any news about mom and dad and he said no. So I told him to go and find out what's going on."
"I told him to check the garage and see if their cars are not parked there."
"And then we kept trying to contact the people who were accompanying my dad and they were not answering."
"When we called my father his phone was disconnected and my mom's phone just kept ringing which made me hopeful that maybe they weren't in the apartment and maybe something had happened the night before and they weren't at the apartment."
"This continued until we were able to reach one of my father's colleagues who told us that unfortunately my parents were home at the time of the attack and then I told that colleague that maybe you don't know what your'e talking about."
"I reached their apartment around 6 am when it was daylight. The situation I encountered when I got there lifted my doubts that they weren't there and I started to think that in reality something has happened and they may really have been in the apartment at the time of the attack."
"I saw my father's neighbor who was covered in dust and searching for his daughter. We didn't stay there long. The men stayed behind but we went home."
"Gradually we realized there was no good news."
