ATTENTION

Two bodies have appeared on the shores of Puerto López in the upper Guajira region. All indications are that they were victims of the US bombing in the Caribbean.

During my travels, I found testimonies reporting hearing explosions at sea followed by the appearance of the bodies.

David Epiayu also recounts how the lights of US warships, which are currently besieging Venezuela, have been visible from Puerto Estrella.

The residents' testimony coincides with a recent report from the Washington Post (@TheWashingtonPost) that describes at least two bombings off the coast of La Guajira.

It cannot be confirmed, but neither can it be ruled out, that the bodies found were those of Colombian citizens killed in this practice of "extrajudicial executions" carried out by the US government, a practice condemned by the US Democratic caucus and international human rights organizations.

The bombing in the Caribbean, with alleged Colombian victims, continues to escalate amid the indifferent attitude of sectors of Colombian society, with the exception of the voice of rejection and condemnation from President @petrogustavo

Translated Video Transcript: An alarming complaint emerged today during a tour of Alta Guajira, after bodies were found on the beaches of Puerto López. According to Indigenous leaders in the area, these individuals were killed by U.S. bombardments. During a visit to the region, the Director of Public Media Affairs, Hollman Morris, spoke with members of the community affected by this situation.

Alta Guajira is a territory of the Wayuu Nation, an Indigenous community whose lives span both Colombia and Venezuela. During his tour, the Public Media Director travelled through the region after receiving serious concerns from residents.

In Puerto Estrella, residents said that in recent nights they have seen lights from U.S. Navy vessels that are now positioned near Venezuela. In Puerto López, about a week ago, two bodies arrived on the shore. Last night, in the middle of a community celebration, residents realised that explosions and bombardments in the Caribbean — which occur nearby — can be heard from this area. They stated that the bodies shown on screen were believed to be victims of those bombardments, and that they were Colombian citizens killed without due process — an extrajudicial execution carried out by U.S. bombardment.
“Is that correct, David?” they asked.

“Well, yes,” he responded. “A few weeks ago, based on clear evidence of a bombing attack, two bodies arrived here, and a third body arrived on the Venezuelan side. And not only that — about a week later, we heard another explosion. Our colleagues in the northern zone — we are nine townships — including those in Puerto Estrella and Taroa, are in constant communication. They have also confirmed that when the waters are calm, they have sighted U.S. Navy bombers and vessels.”

For several weeks now, fear and concern have grown in these towns. There is fear of a possible U.S. land invasion that could begin in this area.

Residents say it is possible that a U.S. ground incursion could start from Castilletes, which is why the population of La Guajira — a binational, Colombian–Venezuelan Wayuu community — is deeply concerned. Members of the Wayuu Nation often hold both Colombian and Venezuelan identity documents, a reality not well known in other parts of either country. Local Colombian families fear what may come, and fear that a possible invasion of Venezuela would also mean bombardments affecting Colombian communities.

“Yes, there is fear right now in the peninsula,” one resident said. “We don’t know what will happen. We are certain that we would be among the most affected here in the northern zone. With climate change, with the difficulty of access from the cities to here, now imagine if there were an invasion. Yes, we are afraid.”

This area has been bombed in the past. Ruins from those attacks remain, dating back to the dictatorship of Rojas Pinilla.
