This night was one of the most difficult nights the Gaza Strip has ever experienced. I heard news of the deaths and bombing of many homes of people I knew or had been friends with for a period of time in my life. Among them was Professor Abdullah Al-Aqqad "Abu Muhammad," who was my teacher for years at school. He and his family were killed when their home was bombed. Another cousin, Yassin Al-Akhras, was killed in a massacre committed by the occupation forces against the family of his grandfather, Jamil Al-Masry, in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

هذه الليلة من أصعب الليالي التي مرت على قطاع غزة، سمعت فيها خبر ارتقاء وقصف العديد من بيوت الناس الذين أعرفهم أو صحبتهم في فترة من حياتي، منهم الأستاذ عبدالله العقاد "أبو محمد" وقد كان معلمي لسنوات في المدرسة، ارتقى هو وعائلته بعد قصف منزلهم، ومنهم الطفل ياسين الأخرس من بني العمومة ارتقى في مجزرة ارتكبها الاحتلال بحق عائلة جده جميل المصري في رفح جنوب القطاع.
