A woman and her child were killed, and a man and two other children, all from the same family, were injured last night when a landmine left behind by the Assad regime exploded as they were driving in the Skaik area near Khan al-Shih in the western Damascus countryside.
Civilians in the area treated the wounded, while Syrian Civil Defense teams transported the bodies of the woman and her child to al-Mouwasat Hospital in Damascus.

Mines and remnants of war pose a serious threat to the lives of civilians in Syria, hindering livelihoods and the return of displaced people to their homes. They are a deferred death planted by the defunct Assad regime, with impacts lasting for years and affecting innocent people at any moment.

قتلت سيدة وطفلها، وأُصيب رجل وطفلان آخران بجروح متفاوتة، وجميعهم من عائلة واحدة، إثر انفجار لغم أرضي من مخلفات قوات نظام الأسد، أثناء مرورهم بسيارتهم في منطقة سكيك قرب خان الشيح بريف دمشق الغربي، الليلة الماضية.
أسعف المدنيون في المنطقة الجرحى، بينما نقلت فرق الدفاع المدني السوري جثماني السيدة وطفلها إلى مشفى المواساة في مدينة دمشق.

تُشكّل الألغام ومخلفات الحرب تهديداً خطيراً لحياة المدنيين في سوريا، وتعيق سبل العيش وعودة المهجرين إلى منازلهم، كموت مؤجل زرعه نظام الأسد البائد، بتأثير يمتد لسنوات، ويطال الأبرياء في كل لحظة.
