Sohrab Khan was among multiple civilians who died in a strike that ‘illustrated the danger to civilians who live close to militants’, Associated Press would later report.
Twenty-six-year-old Khan was leading evening prayers for Ramadan at the house of Shera Deen at the time of the drone attack, according to named locals including Deen himself. Pakistani Taliban fighters joined the prayers. The gathering came under attack from drones.
Alongside Khan, Shera Deen’s two sons, a brother and three nephews were killed, according to Associated Press, which quoted multiple sources. One of the nephews was 10 years old. Seven Taliban fighters also died.
Khan was buried in a graveyard along with his fellow tribesmen killed in this strike, the villagers said. The wooden headstone used indicated he had been killed in a drone attack, they added. The militants were buried in an unmarked grave in another part of the cemetery.
