Airwars assessment
At approximately 1am on October 22nd 2023, 13 people, including at least 12 members of the Mansour family, were reportedly killed when an alleged Israeli bombardment hit their home on Aed Al Bashiti Street, in the Al Geneina neighbourhood of Rafah. An unspecified number of others were wounded.
53-year-old Nimat Muhammad Mansour (Bawadi, wife of Ghaleb Kamel Mansour) was reportedly killed in the attack, alongside her two children 25-year-old Mahmoud Ghaleb Mansour and 17-year-old Fatima Ghaleb Mansour. Nimat’s sister, 47-year-old Khitam Muhammad Mansour Bawadi was also killed in the attack, along with four of her children, 15-year-old Alaa Daniel Mansour, 20-year-old Samer Daniel Kamel Mansour, 25-year-old Bisan Daniel Mansour and 28-year-old Abdullah Daniel Mansour. Abdullah’s wife, 28-year-old Doaa Moeen Bawadi, died in the attack as did their two young daughters 3-year-old Jordi Abdullah Mansour and 6-year-old Dania Abdullah Mansour, and their son, 1-year-old Daniel Abdullah Mansour. A girl named Maria Khaled Zakaria Al-Shanti who was less than a year old was also killed. Sources reported that Doaa was pregnant at the time she was killed.
Safa News posted about the incident on Facebook, originally reporting that five people had been killed, including two children. Another journalist, Adel Zourub, reported the same and stated that the airstrike had allegedly occurred at 1am on the 22nd of October. Al-Ayyam News also reported that four people were killed with a number of others injured.
Posts from family members on Facebook mourned the loss of those immediately reported dead. Several posts mentioned that their father, Daniel Mansour had been killed previously: “May God’s love unite you with your father, the martyr Daniel Mansour…”
Posts also noted that other family members were still stuck under the rubble and the search by rescue teams was ongoing. While initial reports stated that five people were dead, it is likely that the death toll rose to 13 as more bodies were able to be recovered from the rubble of the home in the aftermath of the attack.
Journalist Adel Zourub claimed that the strike occurred with no warning.
All names were matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of names of victims, released October 26th 2023.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
