On July 24th 2024, one child was killed and another seriously injured when an alleged Israeli sniper shot the children near the Al Awda Schools Complex in the town of Abasan Al Kabira. The two young siblings were reportedly returning to the school when they were hit.
The victims were identified as 7 year old Ali Assad Abu Jamea and his sister Wissal Assad Abu Jamea, who is 10 years old. Ali was shot and killed by the bullets. Wissal was severely injured when she was reportedly ‘hit in the abdomen’ by a bullet. At the time of the incident Al-Ayyam News along with Safa News reported that ‘Wissal was seriously injured’.
Images posted by friends and family on social media depict the dead body of a young boy being picked up by an older man in grey trousers and a dark grey t-shirt. In another image a young girl surrounded by a small crowd of people as she is rushed away on a stretcher.
While the majority of the sources mentioned the shooting as occurring near the Al Awda Schools Complex, Mohamed Awad stated that the snipers who shot the children were “stationed behind Abu Nuwaira School”.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the shooting to Israeli forces.
The incident occured at approximately 12:45 pm local time.

Reports of the incident mention the vicinity of the Al Awda Schools Complex (مجمع مدارس العودة) in Abasan Al Kabira (عبسان الكبيرة), for which the generic coordinates are: 31.333889, 34.338333. Due to limited satellite imagery and information available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.
