Shortly before 3:49 PM, on Monday, July 15th 2024, a young man was reportedly killed and between four and six others were injured after an alleged Israeli airstrike hit the UNRWA Salah al-Din School in the Rimal neighborhood, on al-Jalaa Street, in central Gaza City.
According to Safa News, at 4:37 PM, the Palestinian Civil Defense released a report stating one civilian death and a number of injuries. @EmadOtol (Imad Al-Din) posted on Twitter/X explained that UNRWA’s Salah al-Din School was hit by a missile that did not explode but fell on a young man who was killed instantly – Imad was at the Salah al-Din School visiting a relative when the bombing occurred, adding that “If the missile had exploded, a massacre would have occurred that would have left a large number of martyrs”. The name of the young man is unknown.
Aljazeera’s correspondent reported a total of six individuals that were injured in the attack while Alkofiya TV put the number of injured at four.
Khalef Elkatea’s Facebook post announced that Salah al-Din School, an affiliate of UNRWA, at the time had sheltered displaced people.
On July 16th, 2024, the Anadolu Agency reported that Salah al-Din school was damaged in the attack. An accompanying video shows the damage caused to one of the classroom floors where the airstrike struck the building, causing a hole in the floor.
AJA.Palestine posted a video showing an ambulance arriving at the school and a paramedic rushing inside and searching under debris.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
The incident occured at approximately 3:49 pm local time.
