On November 6, 2023, at least two people were killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the Abu Nahl family home located on Hameed Street in al-Shati Refugee Camp in the Gaza Strip. 33-year-old Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl and 24-year-old Mohammed Eyad Shafiq Abu Nahl were killed in the strike. Some sources indicated that others were injured as well.

At 6:02 pm on November 6, the Palestinian Press Agency (Safa.ps) reported a “bombing of a house belonging to the Abu Nahl family on Hameed Street in Al-Shati refugee camp and the removal of a number of martyrs and wounded.”@Sa7atPlBreaking and other sources reported this as well. A video by Al Jazeera shows “the first moments after the [Israeli] forces bombing the Abu Nahl family home in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza,” with dozens of people searching through the rubble of a residential building.

Following the alleged strike, numerous loved ones took to social media to mourn the dead.

On Facebook, Hana Ana grieved “the martyrdom of my nephew Mohammed Eyad Shafiq Abu Nahl and my cousin Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl” and shared photos of the two young men. Sharing more smiling photos of Muhammad and Mahmoud, Sakher Abu Nahel wrote that “with hearts that believe in God’s will and destiny, we received the news of the martyrdom of my beloved nephew, Muhammad Iyad Abu Nahl, and my cousin, Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl.”

Facebook user Chiefamalnoman shared a photo of his relative and explained that “my cousin Mahmoud Aref Muhammad Abu Nahl was martyred…This was after the bombing of the family home, which consisted of five floors.” Tareq Abu Nahel announced that “my dear cousin Abu Mishaari (the martyr Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl) has passed away to the mercy of God in the recent targeting of the Abu Nahl building in Gaza. I ask everyone to forgive him and pray for his mercy and forgiveness.” Umm Thaer Al-Ghandour wrote, “Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl…my brother, the love of my heart, may God accept you as a martyr and take you to the highest paradise, my dear brother.” Slman Abu Nahel prayed for “Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl…my nephew, the love of my heart. May God accept you as a martyr and admit you to the highest paradise.” Fathia Abo Nahl grieved the loss of the young man, writing “my nephew Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl has passed away to the mercy of Allah. He was martyred.” Sharing a photo of Mahmoud behind the wheel wearing a kandura, ghutra and sunglasses, Fahd Aiman wrote “my dear uncle Abu Mishaari (Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl) was martyred to the mercy of God. I ask everyone to forgive him and pray for his mercy and forgiveness.” Sami Noman shared another smiling photo of Mahmoud and grieved “the martyr, God willing, Mahmoud Aref Abu Nahl, as a result of the treacherous [Israeli] bombing.”

Both names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023 the MoH has released six lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the third ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on April 1st, 2024.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.
