Airwars assessment

Four people, a father and three children, were killed and five others injured by an alleged Israeli airstrike on an internally displaced persons camp near Hamad Towers, close to Hamad City, northwest of Khan Younis. The incident occurred on July 24th, 2024 and was reported by multiple sources.

The victims of the airstrike on the IDP camp were members of the Al-Attar family killed in their tent, including 35-year-old Samed Saeed al-Attar and his three children: his daughter, 10-year-old Khatam Samed al-Attar; and his two sons, 5-year-old Zain Samed al-Attar and 8-year-old Sayed Samed al-Attar. According to several sources, including Palestine TV, the Israeli airstrike on the IDP camp also wounded five people, although their identities are not yet known.

In a condolence post, their relative, Nasser al-Attar, expressed his profound shock and heartbreak over the killings of Samed and his children. Samed was one of Nasser’s closest companions and Nasser painted a vivid picture of Samed’s cheerful spirit, unwavering faith, and strong work ethic, which he utilised to provide for his family.

Nasser recalled how Samed’s sense of humour could lift spirits and offer comfort to others. To sit next to Samed, Nasser wrote, was “enough to remove your worries.” Likewise, photos of Samed showed him as a young person smiling and surrounded with friends. The deaths of Samed, Khatam, Zain, and Sayed, left behind a grieving wife and mother. Other relatives’ condolences mirror collective devastation at their deaths.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the bombing to Israeli forces.

All names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023 the MoH has released six lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 15, 2024.
