Airwars assessment
Before 3 PM on 6th November 2023, at least three identified men were killed after an alleged Israeli bombardment on a residential building next to Al-Rabat Mosque in the al-Qarara neighbourhood of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip.
Safa news reported about the incident at 3:34 PM and the death of Hamdi Zuwaid Al-Agha.
While Facebook user Nabd Alqarara alleged four young men had been killed, only three were identified, as the potential fourth was “still under the rubble”. Those identified were 25-year-old Moamen Samir Al-Lahham, 36-year-old Hamdi Zwaid Al-Agha, and Muhammad Abdul Jaber Abu Eid (age unavailable, but he was a young man according to the sources).
Social media users shared messages of grief and remembrance in the wake of the strike. Facebook user Ibrahim Basel Altarawneh remembered his “dear friend” Muhammad, the son of his uncle Dr. Abdul Jaber Abu Eid, recalling him as someone who was “the best of youth in character, knowledge and religion”.
In a post to Facebook, Abdullah Fayyad shared an image of Moamen, showing a young man in a suit in front of a wall of flowers. His accompanying caption was full of grief: “Where are you, my brother? I miss you. Why did you go and why? May God have mercy on you and make you one of the people of Paradise.”
Nabd Alqarara and Abu Nadim Alnajjar both took to Facebook to share the same image of Hamdi, a middle-aged man in a blue checked shirt. Abu Nadim remembered Hamdi as a “beloved brother and friend”, asking that “God have mercy on him.”
Sources diverged on the owner of the residence. While Nabd Alqarara claimed the home belonged to the al-Lahham family, Alqarara Tajmaona believed the Abdul Ghafours was the owner.
Photos shared by Nabd Alqarara show the destruction left by the strike; the residence is completely destroyed. An accompanying video showed the rubble of a building with emergency services searching for survivors, with the caption reporting that there was still someone missing in the ruin.
Where possible, names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released six lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 15, 2024. Airwars matches individuals to the first list where their names appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the second Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza, which was released on January 7th, 2024.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.
The incident occured at approximately 3:00 pm local time.
