Airwars assessment
On November 3rd, 2023, an alleged Israeli airstrike targeted the residence of the Al-Jojo family at the Bahloul intersection in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, in central Gaza City. The alleged strike resulted in the death of between three and six members of the Al-Jojo family.
Multiple local sources reported that the al-Jojo family home had been bombed in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood on the day of the bombing, November 3rd. On November 5th, relatives and friends of 38-year-old Mohammed Shafieq al-Jojo and his siblings 41-year-old Lubna Shafieq al-Jojo and 39-year-old Fola Shafieq al-Jojo began to report on social media that they had been killed. Loved ones of the deceased expressed their grief and memories through social media platforms. Bassam Al Tartouri mournfully remembered his cousins, stating “You were and still are my beloved ones”.
Airwars researchers found three further names of civilians that may have been killed in this incident in the records of Shireen Monitor, a Palestinian organisation documenting names of civilians killed. 22-year-old Ali Mohammed Tawfiq al-Jojo, 11-year-old Karam Ahmed Tawfiq al-Jojo and 2-year-old Rafif Taha Shafieq al-Jojo were reported as killed on November 3rd. While they are from the same family as the victims, it was not explicitly mentioned anywhere that they were killed in this strike. As such they will not be included in the victims of this incident unless further information emerges.
Additionally, Soha Sameer shared her shock about the death of her aunt, Lubna al-Jojo: “I swear I can’t believe it”. Friend Hanan Al-Qaishawi felt similarly, expressing a disbelief that her “school friend” who was “dear to [her] heart” had been killed. Lubna’s death, Hanan wrote, “shocked” her.
Maysoun Abu Ramadan-ElRies remembered Fola, calling her the “owner of the angelic face” and asking that “God have mercy” on her. Eman Mohammed also asked for “mercy” for Fola, and remembered her for her “crazy laugh”.
Mohammad Marwan Altartoori sent his condolences to the family of the deceased, remembering Muhammad as one of “the kindest and most generous young men”.
Where sources could attribute responsibility, all pointed to Israeli forces.
All names were matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of fatalities in Gaza, released July 24, 2024.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
The victims were named as:
