Airwars assessment
Shortly before 8:21 AM on November 7th, 2023, the Abu Qadous family home in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood of Gaza City was struck by an alleged Israeli bombardment which killed five members of the family, including two elderly men and a woman, and injured a number of other civilians.
Social media tributes by family and friends helped Airwars to identify the names of the five victims. Two brothers, 64-year-old Khamis Saeed Abu Qadous (Abu Muhammad) and 60-year-old Muhammad Saeed Hosni Abu Qadous (Abu Anas) were killed alongside Muhammad’s wife and their two children: a 26-year-old son named Osama Muhammad Saeed Abu Qadous and a 23-year-old daughter named Salwa Muhammad Saeed Abu Qadous.
The Ministry of Interior reported that medical service teams managed to recover an undefined number of killed and injured civilians among which were the Abu Qadous family members. Images posted by multiple sources, including Shehab Agency and Palestinian Information Center, showed rescue workers loading one covered body onto a stretcher and carrying it to an ambulance, while rubble can be seen surrounding the body as nearby civilians assist the workers. Additional images showed another covered body being brought from the ambulance to a medical facility by doctors with blood dripping on the ground.
Samah Sameer, a cousin of Khamis and Muhammad, shared her condolences in a Facebook post quoting the Quran: “And never think that those who were killed in the cause of Allah are dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, and they are provided for.” She continued: “With hearts that believe in Allah’s will and destiny, the Haboush family extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to my family and my parents on the martyrdom of the best of their sons.”
Cousin Mohammad Abu Qadous also shared his condolences in a Facebook prayer asking that the “honourable” Al-Abu Qadous family be granted entrance to “[God’s] spacious gardens”.
All of the full names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released six lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 15, 2024. Airwars matches individuals to the first list where their names appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the third “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza” list, which was released on April 1st, 2024.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
The incident occured at approximately 8:00 am local time.
