On the morning of November 7, 2023, an airstrike allegedly deployed by the Israeli military struck the home of Al-Aqsa Radio journalist Yahya Omar Abu Mania in the village of Al-Nasr, in Gaza City. 30-year-old Yahya Abu Mania and a number of his family members were reported to have been killed in the strike.

While initial reports by Shehab Agency and Al-Jazeera Palestine had publicised the death of Yahya in the strike, a follow-up by Al-Quds TV on Facebook indicated that a number of his family members residing in the property had also been killed in the strike. Though the number and names of the deceased were not specified, this has been interpreted to suggest that a potential three fatalities resulted from the strike.

Images of Yahya’s shroud, on which a Palestinian banner, a navy blue press jacket and a microphone had been laid, were circulated on social media. An older man was seen grieving over his body while a crowd of onlookers mourned from a distance.

Where possible, the names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released a number of lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, Yahya was matched to the second  “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza”, which was released on January 7, 2024.

Where sources identified belligerents, all sources attributed the airstrike to the Israeli military.
