Airwars Assessment
At dawn on November 7th, 2023, the Muqbel family home in the Beit Lahia project, North Gaza, was reportedly struck in an alleged Israeli airstrike. Multiple social media posts, including one from relative, Ahmed Muqbel and Amjad Muqbel, reported the death of 50/51-year-old Professor Raed Muqbel (Abu Muhammad) and the injury of his nephew, Ahmed’s son Ihab Ahmed Muqbel, in what was described as a “brutal targeting” of their home. Some sources reported multiple injuries.
Another local news outlet, Akhbar Jenin Post, corroborated these casualties, reporting one fatality and one injury at the Muqbel family home due to an airstrike. A photo circulated on social media, mourning Professor Raed Muqbel, identifying him as the “educator of the generations” and a mathematics teacher at Abu Ubaidah School.
Saja Akram wrote a touching tribute to the late Raed Muqbel on Facebook, acknowledging his impact on education: “My honorable teacher, educator of generations, Professor Raed Muqbel, is a martyr, God willing. You lived a dear, generous, well-mannered life, fearing God at all times. And here you are, returning to your Lord, a martyr, God willing. You have broken our hearts, my teacher. May God make it easy for you.”
His student Mostafa El-Kilani MK also praised the “martyr”: “You were full of morals, compassion for the poor, and dedication to work. I saw it all with my own eyes. May God grant you the highest paradise and compensate us and the entire North.”
Many social media sources shared the image of the late Raed where he is captured wearing a striped shirt and a brown leather jacket. He was a middle-aged man with a round face, big eyes and a dark moustache.
Where sources identified who was responsible, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military. Additionally, most of the sources referred to the attack as an airstrike.
Raed’s name has been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released eight lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, the name Rayed Ramadan Ahmed Muqbl appeared first on the Fifth MoH list.
