On Thursday, 9th November 2023, an alleged Israeli bombing reportedly struck the vicinity of al-Awda Hospital in Tal al-Zaata in the northern Gaza Strip, resulting in injuries to at least eight medical personnel and causing significant damage to hospital infrastructure. No civilian fatalities were reported.
Multiple local sources reported that the Director of al-Awda Hospital stated that a number of staff were injured and hospital facilities were significantly damaged. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that a volunteer paramedic was injured and at least two ambulances were put out of service. Al Araby TV News reported that “eight medical personnel were injured and a number of ambulances destroyed,” while the al-Awda Health and Community Association stated that “10 employees of al-Awda Hospital were injured and nine vehicles were damaged, including two ambulances completely damaged, in addition to severe damage to the departments of al-Awda Hospital.”
Images posted by the Palestine Red Crescent Society showed damage to at least two ambulances, both of which had their windshields blown out by the impact, and the injured volunteer paramedic, who appeared to have an injury to his arm and was being treated in a hospital by fellow paramedics. Additional images posted by the al-Awda Health and Community Association showed a heavily injured man who was wearing an al-Awda Hospital vest and was being treated for a head injury while covered in blood. Vehicles that belonged to al-Awda also appear to have suffered damage, as well as other vehicles parked near the hospital.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
