On January 20th, 2025, a Palestinian fisherman was seriously injured off the coast of the Shati refugee camp, west of the Gaza Strip, after his fishing boat was struck by shelling allegedly carried out by the Israeli Navy.

Social media users continued to report the attack. Facebook user Azmi Al Shwikhi shared a video showing an ambulance arriving to assist the seriously injured fisherman. In the footage, two civilians on a paddleboard are seen helping the man back to shore. A large group of civilians later gathers around the wounded fisherman, who is visibly bleeding. Using a backboard, several men work together to assist him into the ambulance.

Other reports echoed similar details and shared an image of a severely damaged and incinerated fishing vessel, beached and surrounded by other intact boats.

Yenisafak also reported on the incident, noting that earlier in the day, Israeli Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee warned: “In the marine area along the Strip, there is a great danger to fishing, swimming, and diving, and we warn against entering the sea in the coming days.”

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
