Airwars Assessment
Shortly before 3:37 PM on Tuesday, 7th November 2023, a number of civilians were reportedly killed and three people reportedly injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the family home of former Palestinian prisoner Hassan Abdel Rahman Salama, in the Khan Younis Camp in the Gaza Strip.
Lebanese news network Al-Mayadeen reported that “several” people had been killed in the strike. Meanwhile, numerous sources, including the Gazan Palestinian Press Agency (SAFA) that reported the incident at 3:37 PM and journalist Adel Zaarab reported multiple injuries as a result of the strike, with several, including family member Alaa Salama, writing that three injured people had arrived at the Nasser Hospital. In line with Airwars’ methodology, the references to casualties in the plural has been coded as at least two civilian deaths.
A correspondent of Al-Arabiya TV channel, Abdullah Miqdad, reported from the place of the incident at 3:38 PM, just a few moments after the strike, and told the media the following:
“A few moments ago, Israeli warplanes raided the home of prisoner Hassan Salama, a leader of the Al-Qassam Brigades, who is a prisoner of the Israeli occupation authorities. There are injuries in this house as a result of it being bombed by Israeli warplanes. Until now, ambulances are still transporting more victims and wounded from the western region of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. The number of wounded is still arriving at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip as a result of the recent attack on this house. As we have seen until now, ambulances are carrying a large number of citizens who arrived or were injured as a result of these attacks. We also see women and children who came as a result of this raid and are now arriving at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah and the northern Gaza Strip. This is a repeated scene in all hospitals.”
Talking about a “large number” of injuries, Abdullah was referring to the multiple strikes on that day.
A relative, Alaa Salama, worrying for her family, wrote on Facebook, “For God’s sake, can someone reassure me? Please, if anyone knows anything, I can’t reach my family.”
None of the sources available to Airwars indicated the identities of any of those reportedly killed or injured in the incident.
Sources that attributed the strike to a specific belligerent made the Israeli military responsible for it.
