Airwars Assessment
On 7 November 2023, at approximately 12:42 p.m. local time, an alleged Israeli airstrike hit the home of the Hassan family located on Al-Mufti land, near the municipality stadium in the Nuseirat refugee camp, located in Deir al-Balah. The attack resulted in the deaths of 12 family members, including three women and four children, with additional reports of injuries reaching Al-Awda Hospital.
Safa News was the first to report the strike on the Hassan family home at 12:42 PM, stating: “5 martyrs, dismembered, as a result of targeting the house of the Hassan family west of Nuseirat in the central Gaza Strip.” Journalist Mahmoud Bakr Al-Louh followed up with the news at 12:47 PM local time.
Among those killed were 50-year-old Maysara Atta Muhammad Hassan and his 52-year-old wife Mayssar Mohsen Muhammad Hassan Al-Dahdouh, along with their 18-year-old daughter Shawq Maysara Atta Hassan, their two sons, 27-year-old Atta Maysara Atta Hassan and 25-year-old Omar Maysara Atta Hassan, and Omar’s daughters, one-year-old Mayssar Omar Mayssar Hassan and an infant Qamar Omar Mayssar Hassan who was less than a year old.
The profile of Maysara Atta Muhammad Hassan on the website Genocide in Gaza contained his image, showing a middle-aged man with grey hair and a grey beard wearing a shirt sitting outdoors.
The profile of his son Omar on the same website featured the image of a young man with short dark hair wearing a white T-shirt and a black jacket who was holding a small child – likely one of his daughters.
Also killed were Maysara’s brother, Atef Atta Muhammad Hassan, 53 years old, and his son Ezz El-Din Atef Atta Hassan, 30 years old, as well as Ezz El-Din’s sons Youssef, aged seven, and Siraj, aged four.
Airwars’ researchers are also identifying potential names of victims for each of our incidents using open sources such as the website Genocide in Gaza, which has a list of “martyrs” from Israeli forces including the name of the victim, their age, their date of death, and the “circumstances of martyrdom”. Researchers found an additional name of victims on this site using the surname of a family based on a targeted family home – 55-year-old woman Najah Ismael Diab Hassan.
Where possible, the names of the victims have also been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released eight lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, most names are matched to the second and eighth “Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza” lists, which were released on January 7, 2024 and March 24, 2025, respectively.
Mohammed, one of Maysara’s sons, mourned his family on Facebook:
“With great pride and honor, I mourn my family members:
My beloved martyr father, Maysara Atta Hassan
My beloved martyr mother, the light of my heart, Maysara Mohsen Al-Dahdouh
My martyr brother, Atta Maysara Hassan
My martyr brother, Omar Maysara Hassan
My dear martyr sister, Shawq Maysara Hassan
My martyr niece, Maysara Omar Hassan
My martyr niece, Qamar Omar Hassan
May God have mercy on them and accept them among the martyrs.”
The Hassan family home was reportedly located on al-Mufti land, near the municipality stadium in Nuseirat.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
