On Friday, November 15, 2024, an 18-year-old woman, Hanan Kamel Hussein Abu Telakh, was killed during an alleged Israeli airstrike on the Abu al-Hussain family home behind Al-Tahrir station, northeast of Rafah City, in the central Gaza Strip.
Eyad Abu Telakh turned to Facebook to express his grief over the loss of his cousin and shared a verse from the Qur’an (“surah”): “Oh Allah, accept her among the martyrs, and grant her the dwellings of the righteous and the happy. Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” Similarly, a Facebook blog named Abu Telakh Clan Youth Association, indicating a relation to the Abu Telakh family, reported on the death of the young family member, asking that “God have mercy on her, forgive her, and grant her a place in His spacious gardens.”
In addition to numerous private social media users, the incident was reported by several local media outlets, including X/Twitter user @Sa7atPl, Palestine Post, Alyawmnews, the Hamas affiliated outlets Palestinian Information Center, the Palestinian Authority affiliated Palestinian Radio and Television Authority and journalist Hani Alshaer.
While various sources referred to the incident as a bombing, some further described it as an airstrike. The organisation Genocide in Gaza reported that the strike was carried out by warplanes and that no prior warning had been given to the civilian population.
Hanan was matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, Hanan’s name is matched to the eighth ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on March 24, 2025. Hanan had also been added to the list of casualties of November 15, 2024 by Shireen Monitor, a Palestinian organisation documenting names of killed civilians. Her name was also found by cross-checking names against lists of fatalities shared online by Genocide in Gaza, which has a list of “martyrs” of Israeli forces.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli military.
