Airwars Assessment
At around 1:58 PM on Thursday, December 26, 2024, an airstrike or ground operation led by Israeli forces hit the Zayed Roundabout located approximately 500 meters from Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, reportedly killing 51-year-old paramedic Abdul Majeed Abu Al-Aish. The second paramedic who accompanied him, Maher Al-Ajrami, was initially reported as killed, but later he was reported as being slightly injured and arrested by Israeli soldiers.
The news agency Safa reported at 1:58 PM that the two paramedics were killed near the hospital.
Palestinian Information Center reported the incident in its Twitter/X account @PalinfoAr, quoting Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital. According to Dr. Abu Safia, the paramedics Abdul Majeed and Maher were on their way to the hospital at Zayed roundabout when they were hit and killed instantly, and their bodies were allegedly still in the street where no one could reach them.
A later report from the Facebook account “Navel nursing Kamal Adwan Hospital” stated that Maher Al-Ajrami had not been killed but instead was slightly injured and arrested by Israeli forces. According to the image attached to the post, Maher was a man in his 40s or 50s with grey hair and a short grey beard dressed in a green T-shirt.
A Facebook post by Beshoo Beshoo, Maher’s son, confirmed that his father had been injured and arrested by the Israeli military.
On Twitter, the account @PalinfoAr shared a statement from Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, confirming the casualties and stating that the attack was part of an ongoing pattern of strikes against healthcare facilities in Gaza. The post emphasized the immediate impact on medical personnel and the broader humanitarian crisis in the region.
Facebook user Abna`a Mukhayam Jabalia mourned the death of Abdul Majeed Abu Al-Aish (Abu Ahmed) whom he called the “camp’s son, the hero of humanity” and added his image. The late Abdul was a man with grey hair. In the picture he was dressed in a paramedic uniform.
A personal post from Moa`amen Abu Alabd, a relative of Abdul Majeed Abu Al-Aish, expressed grief over his father’s death, sharing a religious tribute and the words: “My father, my friend, my support, my teacher, and my role model, Abdul Majeed Khalil Abu Al-Aish
May Allah accept you, beloved of our hearts and souls, beloved of all, and grant our hearts patience in your separation.”
Where possible, names of victims were cross-checked against fatality records released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH). Airwars’ researchers ascertained the Fares’ age using these lists, matching Fares to an entry in the ninth MoH list released on June 23, 2025. Airwars prioritizes the first appearance of a name across these lists for consistency.
The following day, at 12:54 PM, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) posted to Telegram, declaring a raid on the Kamal Adwan hospital. The statement declared the ground operation but did not refer to any incidents from the day before. In line with Airwars’ methodology, researchers have not recorded this as a declared strike but have saved the IDF Telegram post in relation to this incident, and will update the associated strike status should additional information become available.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all attributed the airstrike to Israeli forces.
